Anybody seen/use these cool chicken waterers?

Now I've been thinking of this for a while... ;-) It wasn't my idea, I saw it somewhere when we were planning our coop on some fancy chicken coop. It had a 5 gal bucket on the outside of the coop hanging up and it had one of these nipples hanging down with a hole for the chicken to put it's...

    No water overnight - problem?

I used to have water in my coop until my two ducks thought it was fun to play in it and made my coop a wet mucky mess. So now we just keep it outside and feed and water them first thing in the a.m. They, too, are all thriving and don't seem to mind. When we go to lock them up at night they...

    Change in layer feed...

What do you consider scratch? My mom is feeding cracked corn along with pellets and they seem to eat more of the corn than the pellets. I've never fed corn before though. They get to eat whatever they want and they choose the corn more than those pellets. They seem to lay alright. I'm...

    Eggnog Recipe

Yes, this one is simple. Like I said, it's not the fanciest, but I had all the ingredients on hand and it's probably the simplest! I don't worry about my eggs right now (especially with the temps around 30 degrees). They come out of the chicken and they're in the eggnog in a couple hours.

    Eggnog Recipe

Kid approved... and simple to make. Not a fancy recipe, but since my kids drink this like water, it's cheap and yummy, plus a good way to use up eggs! I think if you'd like it thick, like from the store, you could use whipping cream for some of the milk, whip it then fold in. 6 eggs 4 1/2...

    Down Spout Waterer???

Hi, I've seen waterers that were from a 5 gallon waterer but I'm wondering if anyone has redirected their downspout to fill the waterer? I'm from Oregon and we get a lot of rain and I use my down spouts to fill all my horses water troughs from Fall to Spring and it works great. But I'm trying...

    Mayonnaise

Well, my first attempt at mayo didn't turn out at all. Came out chunky green yuck. Then I tried drizzling the oil into the food processor and it came out perfect. Now to just get the seasonings right. It's good and in egg salad you can't tell a difference - not even my hubby could - he still...

Just paid $5.99 for a jar of mayonaisse!!

Welp, I tried the Mayo recipe and the first batch was a disaster. I put it all in my food processor and turned it on - don't try that method! So I thought maybe I could salvage it by putting it in my VitaMix. Don't try that either! So, I cleaned up everything and started from scratch again...

    Powdered Cornbread mix

My chicks didn't care for pellets when I switched over but once I was out of the crumbles, they didn't have any other choice. Took a day or two for them to figure it out. Now they eat it just like they did the crumbles. It is less waste!! Feed is expensive and I don't want them wasting...

    need Water Wigglers...

I'll let you know what did did in place of the water wigglers (b/c I couldn't find them either - Walmart was out until xmas time she said). We just used a little ziplock sandwich bag with water in it about 1/3 full, folded it in half and put the metal sensor in between that. It worked fine and...

    Chicken recipe needed

I love chicken and dumplings! I do it a very lazy way too though and use Bisquick for the dumplings and just drop them into a homemade chicken soup. (sometimes I might add egg noodles to the soup). I've never had the rolled out kind of dumplings! My mom always made them with Bisquick so I...

SECOND TRY IS A CHARM UPDATE PG 2!!!

I'm new to this too and just hatched my first bunch of chicks last week. My humidity was all over the place at first. So I put jars of water with a paper towel sticking out of it. When that got dry I added more water. When I needed to bump up my humidity I had a bowl of in the bottom of the...

    Eggs Pipping??

I wanted to post the results on my chicks and ducks that were incubated together. I had 19 chicken/banty eggs - 11 hatched. Out of my 3 duck eggs, 2 hatched. I think the ducks must be hardy b/c my hubby was left with the responsibility this weekend of watching the incubator while I was away...
