I started my chickens with crumbles and found that they were making a HUGE mess of it. No matter what I tried, there was more on the ground than in them. After a rain, it was just a muddy, gooey mess and then they would REFUSE to eat it.
I had considered getting pellets instead, but I was...
Give yourself time. Losing your dog obviously upset you and you seem to be in a lot of confusion and grief. There's nothing wrong with not having a dog, even if you are a dog person. Also, there is nothing wrong with prefering big dogs and having a little one. You won't really know just what...
We have had a few dogs (these are the ones just since I've been alive):
Cody - (black) Newfoundland - purebred, I believe. Don't really remember him, but in pics that I've seen he was a very beautiful dog. Been told he was exceptionally good with us kids (we were under a couple years when we...
I'm more of a cat person, but my family has ALWAYS had at least one dog at a time, so I have strong close feelings for canines as well.
My stand is similar to Kevin's post: "I personally prefer to measure each dog's behavior on it's own personal merits." Each dog is different. I've met the...
I don't have much experience, but your chick looks a lot like my little pullet did at that age. She was yellow instead of gray, but she was throwing me off, too. Her coloring said pullet, but everything else screamed cockeral (especially her comb).
Others here have more experience, so I...
I would greatly love to have a small flock of ducks and would love to have at least Cayugas, Pekins and Welsh Harlequins, with possibly a few extra "grab bag" assortment. I really wanted a pair of Cayugas, but I'm starting to think a WH pair would be better - easier to tell the male from a...
Hm, I didn't know that... I had to look up Quechua and found this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/402512/quechua-tojuda-ameraucana-easter-eggers-in-vino-veritas. Would anyone of those breeds be used to produce EE's for hatcheries? Or do you think it's just a fluke kind of thing...
I know of Sumatras, but are there any other breeds that have more than one set of spurs?
I just noticed that a couple of my Easter Egg Bantam Roos are starting to get a second set of spurs. There's just barely the start of them, but it definitely looks like spurs...
Could this just be...
The pics with the stuffed animals are ADORABLE!! :D

I was going to recommend baby toys, too.
You could always use a small hamster ball (or something similar), leave the lid off and stick bits of fruit and veggies in it. Might get messy, but would fun to play with, I'm sure...
Out of the names you listed, my first thought was Daisy (always a pretty name). It's kind of a "usual" name for a girl duck, though, so I picked Tally. Different, yet sweet. :D
Thank you, everyone. Knowing the signs now, hopefully, if this happens again, I can combat it a little more/better earlier on. I hate that I had to learn this lesson with one of my little birds, though.
Thank you everyone who answered here. Unfortunately, not long after I posted, she passed away. Luckily, I was there, but it was still hard...
I considered doing a necropsy for about two seconds, but couldn't bear it... Probably not the smartest thing, but she was a pet and my pets are my...
Thank you everyone for your advice...
About the "stations": I do have multiple feeding sights and waterers for both of my pens. There are feeding trays at both ends of the pen and three different waterers spread throughout as well. She was eating still, and was getting scraps from me...
If it wasn't for her being so skinny and not sleeping on the roost, I wouldn't worry. She has only been this way the last couple months, though it doesn't seem to be bothering her...
I'm tempted to start putting her in the cat carrier a couple hours each day just to see if that will fatten...
I finally managed to get a sample from my sick hen and got the vet to do a Fecal Float. She didn't find any signs of parasites. I only had her do the one sample.
My little pullet still seems in high spirits and is still eating A TON and drinking enough. She's been flapping her wings more...
So you think she may still have a parasite/worms? Do you think there is anything else it could be? If it's still just worms, great (I think?)! Hopefully she's still healthy enough to handle treatment.
It wouldn't hurt, so I think I will call up my vet. Thank you for suggesting it.
I have a pullet who seems to be having issues and I can't figure out what is ailing her... I'm REALLY hoping someone can help me!
If it helps, I used the questions from the "sticky". I answered the best I could. Hopefully someone can give advice. If anything more is needed, please let me...
Said to dog: "Quit playing with the chicks and get your behind in the house!"
Said to my ladies' roo (a few times, I might add): "Penguin!! Such a good boy!! Did you just 'take care of' one of your girls?!? Such a good boy..." (The last sentence may have been said in baby talk... :/)
"For...
I have 2 younger cats (ages 5 and 4, neutered and spayed, respectively) that I got in my divorce and a 12 year old unfixed male that lives with my parents. After my divorce, I moved back in with my parents, who also have a dog. My older cat seems to tolerate my other two, but my parents' dog...
