Hi,
I was wondering how your progress is on this? I am moving to Green Township, OH and would like to look into changing the ordinance there. A win in West Chester might help me.
Hey folks,
I would like to work on getting the ordinance changed in Green Township.
Anyone want to be my partner in crime?
We currently live out in indiana and have a dozen Swedish flower hens, but are moving next week into Green Township. We will have over an acre if property. But fall well...
A have a sebright who seems pretty serious about being broody, so I am thinking about giving her some eggs. But I am not sure the best way to go about housing her?
i am assuming you need to remove her from the flock, but what are some ideas as a good, easy set up for a broody hen?
thanks!
...But I have found with the few foxes and coyotes that we have that having her out when she wants to be has been enough to keep them away. Pyrs are *Barkers*. Not so much if they are inside or if it is daylight, but outside at night she barks and barks. This warns off predators. Also, they have...
Hey folks,
I have an order for chicks from GF coming in tomorrow. I had asked Jenny at GF if their breeding pens all contained some crested and non-crested birds; she replied that all their breeders are crested. With the debate about breeding crested to crested birds I thought this might be...
Hi!
I am looking for some bantam chicks for my boys. We have swedish flower hens now, but my boys would like some small chickens that are easier for them to handle.
We are looking for silkie (Splash or partridge), sebrights (gold or silver) and d'uccle (mille fluer).
We are in the...
If you are really looking to keep predators away get a good livestock guardian dog. I have a great pyreneese. She is an amazing dog and nothing is going to come in my yard when she is out.
As far as breeds.... I don't have a lot of experience with different kinds of chickens but my Swedish...
I have the exact same experience. My SFHs range all over the pasture and out to the hay field. The forage great. And my poor silkie wanders around lost. They are also very quick to respond when I call for them. They all come running and my poor silkie stands in the middle of the field looking...
Sorry I have not posted in a bit. We have not had as much time to work on things as I like. This week we finally got the door on and got it painted. We also started on the run, but i dont have pictures of it. Still need to cut the chicken door and make windows.
Oh yeah. I am not making any firm decisions yet. They are all only 2 months old. :) He might actually turn out to be a good roo. He is just skitish right now. Doesnt come near people, etc. Which may be a good thing.
My SFH cockerels are completely different. They are always underfoot. I...
Yup. Don't mind having a roo around, but we also have 7 Swedish flower hen cockerels and they are a lore more personable. I just don't think poor Chip is going to end up being my choice to keep.
I have a gluten sensitivity and eat mostly paleo to help with that. I don't keep my chicks grain free. I do keep them corn, soy and wheat free. They get oats, milo, millet, sunflower, canary seed. We have a few acres of land, but not a whole lot planted yet. Hopefully in a few years when it is...
There must be some lines that are more difficult to sex than others. I seem to have gotten ones that are pretty easy.
I have 7 with almost no combs and no wattles
And another 7 with big red combs and wattles.
So a pretty good split on sex.
