When it says "commercial purposes" that just means don't sell your chicks and don't sell your eggs. I'm considering a move to Madison and will certainly try it- just won't advertise! If they have a problem with the chickens, just wait til the goats get settled in.
Thank you very much! I was worried about keeping them in too long because they are so thick furred but the wind chill with in the negative 20s and all my mentors said to bring them in. They did stay in the basement in an uninsulated house, though. We were wearing double layers of clothing down...
I got goats and now I'm a nervous wreck. Though I've been researching them for over a year before taking the plunge, I still feel like I know nothing! When temps here took a dive (-20s windchill), I brought them in the unfinished basement but now am considering moving them back outside. They are...
That sounds like Frontline poisoning to me. It's awful. I had a friend who accidentally overdosed a kitten. The poor thing died in painful convulsions. The fact that your girls are still alive is hopeful but use Dawn dish soap at the application spot (apply it directly and then rinse) and get...
I am planning on replicating your incredible coop in our next home. Now that you've had it two years, what would you change about it? Are you happy with the open air aspect in your climate? Are you happy with the automatic waterer? Is it holding up well?
My son just lost his favorite hen, our only bantam cochin, to old age. We buried her beneath the blueberry bushes last month but I would like to find another cochin for him. I'm willing to travel some and pay a little (along the route between Huntsville, AL, and Cincinnati, OH) but I need one...
Wait. What? Grace is dead?! I know I'm mostly a lurker but I loved the pictures and stories of her and the babies. She will be missed. I'm so, so sorry!
I'm the exact wrong feedback for Marans type. The SOP is complicated and I don't fully understand it. I breed for dark eggs and healthy, personable birds without losing the copper and feathered feet. I'll work on type after I've recovered egg color. If I knew enough, I'd be all over it for you. ;)
I use the pour on- My fully grown BCM rooster gets 6 or 7 drops. My young d'uccle pullets (2 months old) get 2. My BCM hens get 4. It's not precise but be careful not to get them too much. It's essentially poison.
