Cream Legbars

Yes...that was one of the theories listed in one of the old reference books but I think it was the Aristotle method of reasons and not the Galileo (i.e. a possible explination, but not testing to ever proove it out). If there was any hard data on any of this stuff I think the hatcheries would be using them. I guess all we can say is keep hatch records and if you find any corrolation let the rest of us test them out too. :)

Hatch a lot from them. They aren't there yet, but look better than what I started with (and some of what I still am working with) and show the potential to produce some good offspring.

From what I can tell that's gorgeous starter stock. You'll get there!

EDIT: Meant to "quote" RobNorman's pictures. Sorry.

So sorry to hear about Grace and her babies. That would be a terrible blow.

It was the same weekend as the Troy Swap, which I had been planning for the last six months, so I didn't get to go. I really wish they would make them on different weekends, but they are always the same time, so if I am a vendor at Troy (35 minutes from Greenville) then I can't go. I did have a lot of inquiries on the Legbars at Troy, though, and maybe we will have a booth there in September.

I am meeting RobNorman tomorrow with a new line pullet and 2 younger pullets from crazypetlady's Legbars. He has some Black Bresse for me.

Yum! You'll have to let us know if they taste as good as they say!!

Thanks so much. They were of their choosing. i can tell when they are unhappy and i will figure it out and make sure something changes. the blue egg is real. Although they are not consistently that blue i believe that was the best one I've gotten. I have had them come out green before too. From week to week they can come out a different shade. I've had those nice bright blues and I've had pure green from the same hen, they also throw those neon looking blue and the blue with green tint. The egg color has been a mystery to me, i guess its due to the diet but i didn't think they could change so much from week to week.
With regards to the egg color, I have wondered how diet might affect color. In my flock, each layer has a fairly consistent eggshell color, however all of the eggs seem to be getting lighter in color. Maybe it correlates to the winter greens drying out in my Southern California climate. If I knew what generated a neon blue eggshell, I would be very interested in supplying that!

In your other post you mentioned that you keep the roosts inside the building and tied that to morning crowing. I have a similar arrangement to try to buffer sound transmission.

I have a local chef who is all over me to get bresses. I I told him he could try some of my Delawares, but was pretty much out of space for new breeds.
I realize there is probably another post for this...but I was wondering if the lure of the Bresse is due to the diet they were traditionally fed? I can't recall the details, but it seemed to be intrinsic to the product.

I wanted to share a few photos of my CL. She is 22 weeks and I hope she is going to start laying soon! Im not breeding or anything, she is just a pet. I love her iridescent lime green earlobes, is this normal?

My poor crooked comb roo.... Sigh. And my two girls. The girl in the foreground and the roo are two weeks younger than the girl in the back I have 9 clb eggs in lockdown hoping for some better chicks.
