    I thought she was eggbound?

Any ideas? Could it be possible that she was eggbound with a soft egg that passed without me knowing? Can adding light (I had it set to add 2 extra hours of light per day) cause a hen to become egg bound?

    I thought she was eggbound?

Last month I decided to add some light to the coop to increase egg production. We were getting 2-3 eggs from over a dozen layers... In a few weeks it increased to 8-9 a day. Good deal right?! Well then I had two hens go broody and another appeared to be eggbound. She is almost 3, comet-sex link...

    mosquitos and egg production?

We live with woods on all sides of us... I remove all standing water I can, but the leaves on the trees fill with water, they breed on the moist wood, there are puddles on the ground all over. I am powerless :( It rains everyday now. I do like the natural bugspray made buy Cutter (it's mainly...

    mosquitos and egg production?

Ah yes, agreed. How do I counter anemia in the chickens? I know what to do for people, I had slight anemia myself while pregnant. So lack of sleep, obvious stress (I would be stressed, being bugged all night long) and possible anemia could cause a drop in egg production? We've tried so many...

    mosquitos and egg production?

I have 7 hens (a mishmosh of silkie/mixes and golden comets) of varying ages (5 months up to 2.5). We get 1 or 2 eggs a week :( I have tried everything mentioned here (I did spend quite a bit of time reading here), but I just cannot figure out what the problem is. I know we have a mosquito...

Just wanted to update, our chick died last night. I still have no clue what happened... the other chick with one closed eye is doing fine, eating & drinking normally.

Help! Sick chic~closed eyes, sluggish and not eating

I'm going to bump this up to see if anyone can offer advice. Chick is still sick, I'd say about the same. She eats (scrambled egg watered down with electrolytes and garlic) and drinks through the dropper but makes no attempts at moving around. She opens her beak with every breath, but I can't...

Help! Sick chic~closed eyes, sluggish and not eating

...totally in line with coryza. No sinus swelling or drainage, no facial swelling, only on the eyelids. The other chicken with a closed eye has had her eye closed for almost a week now with no other symptoms. I thought it was a mosquito bite. The other eye looks fine. *sigh* I hope she survives.

Help! Sick chic~closed eyes, sluggish and not eating

Our littlest chick (about 5 weeks old) is sick. I noticed that her eyes were shut today and I brought her inside to put her in the inculator. She is very sluggish (not even peeping) and she seems to be breathing heavily with her mouth open. I fed her scrambled egg mixed with electrolytes and...

    Babies!!!

Thanks everyone :) It all started about 7 weeks ago when I decided NOT to get that morning's egg for breakfast lol. She laid one egg every day for 3 weeks (yes, her original clutch was 21 eggs!!) and then sat faithfully for 4 weeks. She carried away 2 eggs that were bad, 2 babies dies while...

    Broody pekin?

My one year old+ pekin may be going broody but I'm not 100% sure. We have hens going broody all over the place lately, so I am experienced with the hens but not the duck. I haven't been collecting her eggs so she has quite a few in there and every day she spends more and more time in the box...

    Momma and her new baby!!

Tiny went broody almost a month ago... she had a pretty good size clutch of eggs and on the eve of day 21, a raccoon dug into the very back corner of the coop and scooped out 2 brand new hatchlings and a bunch of her eggs :(. I was sure no more would hatch, maybe the eggs got cold or whatever...

When will my broody get up??

It's pretty warm right now, we're in FL so I imagine it's in the 80's and humid down there. I'll ask about lockdown in the hathching forum, thanks for the tip!
