Ok so during the day when I am home I let my girls roam free in my yard. At 5 I noticed only 5 out of 6 came to the coop and 1 has not returned. Can anyone show me there grazing pens or tractors. They will be in the coop at night and during the day they can be in the tractor. Thanks I hope...
The coop is nice but your run needs some work. I would get rid of the chicken wire and put something more sturdy up. I would also put some bird netting on top. I love the real people door.
Hi everyone.
I have two of my Road Island Red hens that are missing some neck feathers. Not a lot but I can see some skin. I looked all over for lice and a few nights ago I went out at night and looked inside their coop for mites with a flash light and saw none. I do treat the coop with DE...
I cracked a brown egg from one of my Rode Island Reds and a white from my blue Andalusian. What would be the cause of blood spots in the yolk? They eat organic feed and have about 2-6 hours of roaming in the yard? I take good care of the coop, it is cleaned once per week. Is there something...
Hi everyone. I have 6 hens and have raised chickens my whole life. My friend calls me the other day and says "I bought two ducklings (Malards)." How do you take care of ducklings? Do they go under lights when they are little, and when are the old enough to go out side and what type of coop...
I can not see them, but I know that they are there. What can I do to get my coop, run and chickens mite or lice free? Thanks in advance, Janice from Walden, NY.
I have been using DE in my coop for the whole year now that I have had my chickens as a preventative. What else can I do if it is lice or mites. I do put DE on there rooste and I dust them 2 times per month.
I would put up a picture but I left my camera in my classroom.
UM I just noticed that one of my little hens is kinda missing some neck and face feathers and she looks like a hot mess. She has a great appetite. No one else is molting. Could this be something other than molting. I clean my...
I make oatmeal everyday for my 6 girls. I add apples, rasins and some scratch grains. They love it. I also make sure that it is nice and hot when I serve it. When I went to cornell for Animal Husbandry and Science I took a feed class. We were taught that The grains/Oats give them extra...
I have pictures of my coop but no pictures of tarps on it.
Basicallyy I have 3 tarps on the coop, on roof, and around the two doors of the coop (Nesting boxes and the clean out door).
Here is my coop inside and out.

Hi fellow chicken lovers,
I live in Orange County NY and it was in the teens last night. I put tarps around the doors of my coop, added some fresh bedding and left them for the night. I have been doing this for the whole week. In the morning I give them some warm water, their feed, and...
Not sure which one did it. BUT IT happened. I give them nutrena organic layer pellets. Should I supplement with shell and or organic cottage cheese or yogurt? Not sure what happened. I did receive an egg that was very soft shell last week. Is this normal for young layers?
