    newbie coop build

The coop is nice but your run needs some work. I would get rid of the chicken wire and put something more sturdy up. I would also put some bird netting on top. I love the real people door.

2 Road Island Red hens have some feathers missing in the neck area?

Hi everyone. I have two of my Road Island Red hens that are missing some neck feathers. Not a lot but I can see some skin. I looked all over for lice and a few nights ago I went out at night and looked inside their coop for mites with a flash light and saw none. I do treat the coop with DE...

I just cracked two eggs and both had little blood spots in the yolk?

I cracked a brown egg from one of my Rode Island Reds and a white from my blue Andalusian. What would be the cause of blood spots in the yolk? They eat organic feed and have about 2-6 hours of roaming in the yard? I take good care of the coop, it is cleaned once per week. Is there something...

    Molting or something else

I have been using DE in my coop for the whole year now that I have had my chickens as a preventative. What else can I do if it is lice or mites. I do put DE on there rooste and I dust them 2 times per month.

    Molting or something else

I would put up a picture but I left my camera in my classroom. UM I just noticed that one of my little hens is kinda missing some neck and face feathers and she looks like a hot mess. She has a great appetite. No one else is molting. Could this be something other than molting. I clean my...

How does oatmeal help chickens stay warm?

I make oatmeal everyday for my 6 girls. I add apples, rasins and some scratch grains. They love it. I also make sure that it is nice and hot when I serve it. When I went to cornell for Animal Husbandry and Science I took a feed class. We were taught that The grains/Oats give them extra...

Hi fellow chicken lovers, I live in Orange County NY and it was in the teens last night. I put tarps around the doors of my coop, added some fresh bedding and left them for the night. I have been doing this for the whole week. In the morning I give them some warm water, their feed, and...

5 1/2 month Pullet laid an egg without a shell.

Not sure which one did it. BUT IT happened. I give them nutrena organic layer pellets. Should I supplement with shell and or organic cottage cheese or yogurt? Not sure what happened. I did receive an egg that was very soft shell last week. Is this normal for young layers?

    Egg eating?

I have 6 hens and they have 4 nesting boxes, but they all use the same one. The shells do seem a little thin. Maybe some extra cal. will do the trick?
