We have built 2 coops and both have outside nest boxes. The only problem I have incountered is leaking during heavy rain. I fixed this on the first with a awning over the hinge crack, this is where the water was leaking. This solved the problem with next coop. I changed the hinging point and...

Call the cops. File a report. This is the only way you can get compensitation for your loss. next time use the lab for batting pratice. Three or four good homerun shots to the head will stop futher attacks. You will more than likely need a police report before you can file a claim...
Is there a way to post more than one picture without haveing to post each picture seperately. I would like to post several pictures of our new coop progress to my page. It takes quite a long time posting them one at a time. Is there a way to post the whole file. About 15 pictures.
When your chicks start squatting, bout how long is it before eggs? We have 2 RIR's and a Golden Comet. Blondie the Comet is starting to squat when I let them out in the morning. She has been doing this for about 2 days. Are eggs comming soon?
If your chicks are young, under 4 weeks, it will work for grit. If they are older you might need to suppliment. If they have access to the soil, ie dirt, gravel and such from your yard they will most likely get enough grit. Our chicks roam over our pen, it has a lot of gravel and grass and we...
Have you shut them in the coop for a couple days? If you have not locked them inside they don't know its home. It takes them a few days to attach to the coop. If you have not, leave them inside for a couple days and that should do the trick.
I'm with anyone who says "shoot it". Get you a nice 410 gauge shootgun and shoot the dog. If you get caught discharging a firearm in city limits, pay the fine. If its the stray, they your neighbor will be happy, if not she will be sad. Better her than you.
Living in the country like you do, it could be many things. I have heard all kinda stories about how this varmit eats this way and that varmit eats this way. Most of the time, if your chick is just killed, its someone's dog. Most wild varmits will at least eat parts, dogs just kill.

ditto to this post. Its got a lot to do with the breed of the chicks. our white leghorns are quite standoffish, our buff orp will follow you everywhere.
We have a Buff Orpington named "Blondie". well she has become the building inspector. we are in the process of building a new coop and she is interested in everything we are doing. we were setting the post for the legs, she came over and stood around my feet watching. even when I would slam...
My understanding is, breed 2 different types chicks and when they hatch the color of the chick indicates what sex the chicks are.
If this understanding is correct, then if we breed a white leghorn and a RIR. will the pullets be red or white, or some other combination?
thanks, we are thinking...

We have 2 RIR's, 2 White Leghorns, and 1 Buff Orpington. Blondie, the Buff is the sweetest chick we have. The reds are friendly, but the buff is the best. She hangs out with the reds the most. I think that is due mostly to the age difference, the reds and the buff are 4 weeks older...
If they have been housed in your coop and run for 2 weeks, they should be fine. at 10 weeks, I don't think they will wander off very far. we were free ranging our 3 RIR's that were 12 weeks and our 2 white leghorns that were 8 weeks. the big girls would range about 100 yards from the coop...
Just got my door the other day. have not installed it yet, building new coop. the door is very simple and built very sturdy of aluminum. does not look very difficult to install. installatiion nuts and bolts included. going to hook mine up with a solar panel to keep the battery charged...
