U_Stormcrow Wow you're fast! I popped out for the weekend and came back to all these messages! We had found the part about the 20 birds etc, etc, but a lot of that passage didn't look as familiar. I'll have to look up her zoning and see what it is. Thank you for the help!
My sister recently moved to Tullahoma, TN and has always wanted to have a small flock of chickens. She's hoping to start her flock next year. However, she always wants to make sure she's on the up and up and has been trying to find out if the city allows chickens within its limits. We looked...
No, I didn't see that. What fun! I'll check it out
I checked out the hatcheries, but whoa! The cost of shipping eggs from them is pretty pricey. Bu thanks for passing along the link!
I would like to start incubating eggs with my son this spring. We have a backyard flock (no roosters as per county rules) and he loves the girls. I think he'd really get a kick out of incubating his own eggs and hatching his own chicks. I'm looking for someone who can sell some fresh fertile...
I raised chickens as a kid for about ten years or so. Definitely my favorite childhood hobby! We had a commercial sized incubator and I would have that sucker full all summer long. Looking back, I think my parents were very understanding of all the chicks and chickens running around!
I stopped...
As I said previously, she isn't acting broody. She doesn't sleep in the nest and she doesn't sit in it 24/7. She'll just go in every day and sit from 30 min up to 2 hours.
My flock started maturing around July/August, and I have some very dedicated layers. It seems like a couple are still not laying yet, but since I've seen posts where someone has a 9 mo old hen who still isn't laying yet, I'm not too worried (they are 7 mo old now).
But the behaviour that I'm...
Thanks for the dust tip!
Yeah, I saw the paver sand at Lowe's, but it started to rack up the cost for an entire run coming in small bag installments. But sounds like I can use that for a good reference for the sand I'm looking for.
How about you round out that collection of Orps with their Aussie sisters, Black Australorps? I have a flock of six (trying the breed for the first time) and they are just lovely. Beautiful to look at and sweet dispositions.
I know you said you don't want barred birds, but I also had good...
Hey all! I've been researching and plan to switch to sand in my girls' run instead of dirt. The sand seems like it will work better, give better drainage, keep the odor down, and even provide a decent dust bathing material for the chooks that won't leave giant holes all through the run.
Here...
How many chickens do you have?
I have six
What kind of chickens are they?
All are Black Australorps.
What are their names?
We have Blackie, Fingers, Quesadilla, Bertha, Hannah, and Henrietta.
Oh yeah, I talk to the biddies all the time! I think they like the interaction, and since I work from home, I know I enjoy the company. My flock really responds to my voice too. I can be sitting out on the back porch quietly reading and watching them forage (love chicken TV!), and they will be...
