What is it’s living situation? Is it outside? What are you feeding your chicks? How old are they? If the chick has been outside I would try some Corid. That poop looks like it’s starving but to figure out why it’s starving we will need some more info. Sometimes chicks can have genetic issues...
That’s good! NurtiDrench is very useful in situations like this—I usually make a mash of it with a little chick starter and water (kind of like an oatmeal consistency) and often just putting a little on their beak will entice them to eat more
We had a raccoon attack one morning and one of my Ameraucanas was nowhere to be found afterward. Found her wandering around the front yard the next morning. Yours will most likely turn up! Keep us posted

I will never catch up on this thread so I will have to just pop in here and try to keep up. Not breeding but seriously considering getting rid of almost all my non-game hens. Wish I’d discovered them sooner
I put my coop smack in the middle of the existing crow territory and it is definitely helpful—more helpful when they have chicks in spring and summer—but that hasn’t stopped a red tail and her mate from stalking my chickens. Having a rooster that fights back has helped though
We have distemper in our county right now and I have read animals with distemper can act similar to animals with rabies and they lose their fear of humans in those cases.
It’s legal to shoot where I live so I shoot them between the eyes with a .22 mag. Which is easier than it sounds with the dog-proof trap because the second they see you raccoons will stand their ground, stare you down and hiss. So it’s not hard to make a humane kill-shot. They will flop a lot...
I don’t think once is a big deal but I wouldn’t make a habit of it. Sometimes (when I’m feeling really fancy) I will throw some fresh herbs in the nest boxes after I clean the coop. The coop smells lovely for about 12 hours. Then it smells like poop again. So if the lemon scent lasts longer than...
Interesting read. I’m not surprised this is a topic being discussed in academia. I’ve known too many vegans 🤣🤣 I shouldn’t be surprised that someone is funding this sort of “research” even if it’s just by paying a professor a salary to sit in their climate-controlled office. Would be fun to see...
It looks like my wild chicken adventures are over—she abandoned the nest and went back to the COOP!! So that’s that I guess 😆 I felt the eggs and they all seemed pretty light. I’m not curious to mess with them or do an eggtopsy. I imagine she has been sitting on duds since the time between roosters
I second the dog-proof traps. They work great and in my experience the raccoons will avoid the spot for about a ten-foot radius where you set the trap after you’ve caught one. I don’t relocate raccoons (unless you consider sending them to raccoon heaven a relocation) so I don’t know if they will...
