Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

It looks like my wild chicken adventures are over—she abandoned the nest and went back to the COOP!! So that’s that I guess 😆 I felt the eggs and they all seemed pretty light. I’m not curious to mess with them or do an eggtopsy. I imagine she has been sitting on duds since the time between roosters

But what I’m saying is that I’d hate to bring in birds that would otherwise get to live a wonderful life, only to pass from an illness they have no immunity against, or a predator.
I struggled with this before taking on Glais. So far I haven't seen ant signs that he's missing home or his family. He is obviously used much better cover in his environment; it's a major issue at the field.
Currently he looks a bit loved up with Mow, she's still laying eggs.
He really likes the coop extension with the roost bar.
I wondered if the change in feed would be a problem, but what I feed them isn't that far from what Perris feeds.

One can never be sure.

It's a good time of year to plant woody shrubs, especially if you can find some on sale. Get a jump on cover for next year, maybe.

Two hours without any rain and a bearable temperature of around 11C.

No. Samos is a large island east of Athens in the Ionian Sea, near the Turkish coast south of Izmir. Samothrace/Samothraki is a small island north north east of Athens, and east of Thasos, in the Thracian sea. Edited to add it's probably most famous today for a sculpture in the Louvre (thieves permitting ) of a winged Victory

Thanks for pointing things out. I do know my way a bit in Greece but somehow never visited any of the islands in the Thracian see. Would be a nice destination for a future vacation.

I have seen Niki in the Louvre too, but I didn’t realise it came from the island of Samotrakis. For me its the statue that is impressive not its origin. Unlike the Elgin Marbles from the Acropolis of Athens.

Ancient tax.

The three look like they’ve been together for years. ❤️
Glais has got a bit to learn yet.
The most noticeable between say him and Henry, is Glais is quite insistent on having his own space. I hope this will change. Mow and Sylph like their rooster cuddles.

Have they been trying to stick their heads up his bumfluff a la Fret? 🤨 :D Or just slink under a wing?

At any rate, I don't think I've seen any of the roos here give or receive cuddles post chickhood. They typically jump like they've had an electric shock if another bird touches them by accident
