Sounds fair i'll leave them with her. I did buy the eggs in and with them being rir i paid a fair bit for them. Never mind! She's lovely and tame so hopefully she'll get some but there are no signs of any more hatching yet.
I've got some in my incubator due to hatch in 3 days time, do i risk...
It looks like it was ready to hatch and there was no blood, i think she just squished it. Why this has happened twice with 2 different broody hens i don't know. I don't think i'll let any more get broody.
Thanks for your response, she is by herself, the chick was just dead, no wounds or bleeding and still under her when i checked. i would have thought she'd have knocked it out the nest when it was dead but she didn't so i had to remove it. This was the same as last time with my welsummer, exactly...
I've only ever had 2 hens go broody, a welsummer and a nova brown (the eggs are hatching as i type from the nova brown) Both though have killed their first chick that hatched. Last time with the welsummer i then took the eggs from her and hatched them myself. Should i do the same now with the...
I like this a lot, i have only ever had 2 hens go broody, a welsummer and a nova brown (nova browns eggs hatching as i type) both though have killed there first chick to hatch, by mistake or on purpose i don't know. Last time with the welsummer i then took the eggs from her and finished the...
I don't think it's their environment. They are kept clean and i disinfect their shed regularly. The shed may not have the best ventilation but has open window and mesh panel 12" x 12" so i don't think it's bad. They are fed on layer pellets.
Does ivermectin not treat for respiratory problems, i read that it did? They sneeze and sniffle and are sometimes wheezing. They aren't too bad yet but i don't want them getting any worse. They definitely have something even if it not that bad.
Right so i know 3 times over that they can't drink the pour on type!!! Thanks. I'll look in to getting some of the Oxytetracycline
Can this be put in their drinking water and at what ratio?
May seem stupid but i can't find any injectable or water soluble ivermectin online that is cheap. Can they drink the pour on type if i dilute it in water and keep it well stirred to prevent it separating? If so what ratio would i dilute it to?
My hens all seem well but sneeze occasionally and...
i'm in the uk so things are different here as well. Let me know how you get on with peroxide and the dosage amount you put in the water along with how long you add it for. Thanks.
Sorry to sound stupid but what unit is "mg" as you put "0.2 mg/kg and 0.5% is 5 mg/ml" Also how much is 1 drop if i were to use the 1% strength ivermectin? Why would i use 2 drops if it says 1.
How often do i need to apply it?
i am quite sure that they have mites. They seem fine however i cleaned their perch and the bark came off it and there were mites underneath. I now want to kill any that may go on the birds at night. I have just cleaned out the entire shed so that's a start. Any ideas of what i can add to my...
I want to add something to my poultry's water to kill anything that they shouldn't have. I think this would be quicker than treating each bird individually. I want something proven for poultry rather than just old wives tales. I've heard of ivermectin but i only have the cattle pour on type...
I heard that dipping hens feet in vegatable oil can get rid of leg mites. I put a tub down in their doorway where they pass through to get outside then it would help to kill any mites they might have. At the moment they just seem to drink it. I have 2 questions:
1) Will it do them any harm...
I agree that the ideal of using a board could be a good idea however not in my case. The trees where they were roosting all had a lot of branched so it would have been difficult to get the board up amongst them and then when i moved the board down with him on the end he would have been stepping...
yer i don't think a net does much good. I managed to catch him. YES! I took a lot of lights and let it go dark, i then climbed the tree and grabbed him, i then somehow managed to climb down the tree with him. I also ended up with a white hen, possibly a white star although it looks a bit too big...
I don't know how old they are, i would say that they are quite old and look like they may be bantams. They were let out in a woodland close to me where people dump unwanted animals, there are a lot of cockerels that were chasing them around so i thought i should have them. They seemed happy to...
I just got some new birds that looked goods but don't know what they are. Any help to the breed and sex would be good.
If you need any further information please ask. They aren't silkies as they only have 4 toes and the coloured one has feathered legs whilst the black one doesn't...
