For now, make sure they are monitored for any symptoms, if they only ate a little they could be fine. If it looks bad, I found this which was an answer to somebody’s chicken eating half an avocado peel.
Wow even my 4 year old hens are laying still, I guess I really got lucky. Temps are hot but nothing extreme, it like 70-80° F, but nothing they haven’t handled before.
I’ll be sure to wash her butt, I didn’t know what fly strike was! I just read a whole article about it, thank you.
My hen Henna is about 5 1/2 years old, and within these last few months she’s completely stopped laying eggs. She’s been acting pretty normal, eating and drinking and whatnot, no symptoms that I know of. But her comb suddenly got super floppy out of the blue, and her butt is dirty so that makes...
This is Daffodil she is 2 months old. I got her as an ameraucana but I’ve been told she seems more of an Easter Egger, and at this point I’m not sure if she is even a she. Regardless this growth has been apparent since her adult feathers have been coming in and I initially thought it was a pin...
This is a complete guess but could wry neck be a possibility? If you don’t know wry neck is either a genetic condition or is caused by a vitamin deficiency in which it’s easily fixed by supplementing some vitamins (especially vitamin E I believe) Wry neck causes the bird to loose balance and...
I don’t know much about ducks but I do about cuts. So first if it’s a very deep wound the best thing to have that heal would be stitches done by a professional. However I know that’s not possible for everyone. He most likely appears to try and get to it because it is painful and bothering him...
I’ve never experienced a chicken with a broken bone but I think it should heal as long as you can prevent her from being mobile so she doesn’t walk on it. That way it will heal faster and she won’t do further damage to her leg. Usually for bones it takes around a month to fully heal.
I’ve decided to update this, Nuggets outward symptoms haven’t gotten worse but her abdomen is definitely more swollen and squishy then the others. I’m now pretty sure it’s water belly which is very unfortunate bc I do consider my birds my pets. With her being 4 years old it is somewhat expected...
There is a thread from 2014 about a chicken that looked just like this and there are some great answers, here’s the link, hopes it helps. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/eyes-swollen-shut-scabs.938353/
She is eating and drinking, as far as I can feel her abdomen feels the same as the other hens so I assume it’s normal, her crop right now is full but so are the others, and I also compared the keel bone to the others and that feels the same as well( not overly boney) though I’ve never actually...
I have a 4 year old Rhode Island Red named nugget. I believe she has some serious problem going on but I don’t know what it could be.
Symptoms: Her poop has been runny for well over 4 months by now and she constantly has soiled feathers around her vent, but that was her only symptom over the...
I wanna thank everyone for help, I’ll start with an epsom salt soak, and see what it does from there, if the infection is too deep I’ll see if I can get a vet visit because at home surgery isn’t and option for me, it’s usually no less than $120 for an emergency visit and everything else has a...
I have such an issue with bubble foot. Currently multiple hens have it and I’m just not sure how to deal with it. I am 16 and I’m on this website because nobody else cares for the hens like I do. I cannot do surgery for it bc again, just 16 and I can’t stand the idea of doing something wrong and...
I’ll definitely try some of the things in the article, I put apple cider vinegar in their water and I gave them some plain yogurt for gut health. I figured I’d try soaking some bread in oil since there’s no harm in that. And I’m going out to buy grit today because I finally have the time. I...
