So two chickens in the past few days...

Been a while now, still haven't seen the coyotes again. Borrowed a friends electric netting so the chickens have been out for a couple weeks now. Snares haven't produced anything either.

Already tried calling, that hasn't worked. Last night they got out for a little bit and no coyotes again. They all stuck together which made things easier.

Been out with chickens in large dog crates and with decoys the past few days. Haven't seen anything. I ordered some snares, that will hopefully work

So two chickens in the past few days...

Well, I haven't seen coyotes since we lost the two birds while we were right their. I'm working on clearing some brush, making a 2D decoy flock and putting in a tree stand. I have some red security lighting going up today in hopes to see them at night better. I've cleared a lot of brush and...

The amount of work that I'd have to do for what I would consider a secure run... it ain't going to happen with 5 month old twins.

So two chickens in the past few days...

Lost two birds today, saw it was a coyote. The only chance I had to get him he was between me and the neighbors house... and then he or his partner came back. First one that was picked off was a young turkey, not a lot of meat, second was a full grown hen. We were right there and it didn't phase...

So two chickens in the past few days...

The chickens free range, so yes. Although the trail does not lead directly to a neighbor... I don't just believe what my neighbor or my son tells me but it does not sound like its a neighbors dog... I would have expected a neighbors dog to kill all the birds instead of taking one at a time...

So two chickens in the past few days...

Well we've lost two chickens in the past few days as the tread title says, First one was our rooster. Our three and a half year old saw the rooster being chased by a "big black dog". I really hope its not somebodies dog... or a bear. My money is on a dark colored coyote or a wild dog. In which...

What is killing my hens? ***WARNING*** GRAPHIC IMAGE

Interesting, I found the pluck site for my hen Rouen duck right by a pond they frequent. A mess of feathers, a little bit of digestive tract and an intact egg. No carcass. I figured bird of prey. We'd been out of town and the neighbor kid was letting opening and closing the coop for them Sent...

    Rouen Duck thread

We lost our first bird, a Hen Rouen. She layed nice blue eggs. Found a pluck site right next to the neighbors pond they frequent. Close to all the feathers, some of the guts and an egg, not a single bone. Seems most likely a bird of prey. Don't know any other animal that would leave the egg...

Well she's not moaning anymore, not doing anything else weird, I jokingly told my wife that "well she's not breathing either so of course that's why" Sorry you all have to deal with my sense of humor and over the years it hasn't got any better. She's purring softly this morning. seems ready to...

Electrolytes are in the water. I'm out of ACV and now the Electrolytes. I did end up remembering where a heater was and put that on her. After an hour or so she stopped sneezing still moaning a little though not as bad. It sounds like the start of a cluck and ends with a sad sigh? If that...

5 1/2 Month old NH Hen. Just this evening she started moaning and sneezing. She's isolated, has food and water. Doesn't look to have any discharge anywhere. Turkeys decided she need to be pecked on hard, all four were going after her. She'll probably die. I'll keep you updated unlike 90%...

Free Range chickens not laying in their coop. HELP!

I found a nest outside my coop today... I rushed and brought the 4 eggs inside while the hen was clucking up a storm, I don't know if she laid today or not but she's been coming up from a brushy spot behind the coop the past week or so. She went into the coop for a little bit. And then went to...

    Possums are Chicken Killers

You could get a plastic storage container and put the trap in with a block of dry ice, faster if it's in a coffee can with water. Large grocery stores will sell dry ice. Take your own Styrofoam cooler and throw that in you large freezer to store the dry ice for a couple of days Sent from my...
