Actually I was wrong in my first written line. She actually chose to hop. When she wanted, she could walk just fine. Only had a little waddle-thing in her step. Either way, she was getting around normally.
Lily has always had a hop. Not really able to walk since birth, but hopped better than a rabbit.
Long story short...she is 5 months old. We went though a period about 2 months ago where I thought she would for sure pass away. She couldn't fully stand, put weight or walk on her left leg. After a...
Thats what happened to three of mine. One leg went bad just for the other one to go bad as well. Almost as if they were paralyzed. I guess you and I did have a battle with mareks. I am sorry to hear about your baby. My 4th chicken, whos toes curled and was down to using just 1 leg...thankfully...
Well that's strange. Mine always pick on the weakest link of the opposite breed. But i would love to have a couple of silkies. Our local stores; Tractor Supply, Callahans, etc... does not sell them.
Omg lmao silkies crack me up. How incredibly cuuuute. They are gorgeous! Oh my...Clair def. is not in a good position getting plucked like that. I learned with my girls that they also segregate by breed. If the barred rock went into the brhamas territory, she would walk away with less feathers...
Mama hen kicked her two babies out from under her wing recently and doesn't want anything to do witb them. So now I have one lonely mama and two babies that are so scared of her. They wont eat (or even go) near her. But Im patiently waiting, as. I know with time they will become one group.
Can you post a few pictures of the silkies? I really want some! I looove silkies!! I think you should just keel doing what you're doing, especially for her safety, and in time everyone and everything will settle down and fall into place.
Lily is this size and LOVES corn kernels!! Canned corn is her favorite thing ever. I kinda squish each kernel between my finger to make it smaller for her and easier to get down. I also go catch grasshoppers and stuff to give her.
I would think that it will heal fine on its own. Without infections setting in. Keeping it very clean (eptson salt bath) and medicated should work just fine! :-)
Poor thing. But some chickens just cant be in a flock. I have read that it could be stress related and she could do fine with just one or two siblings.
I boil chicken from the grocery store. Boiled chicken and ground up turkey is high in protein. I fed those to Lily and she gained strength within hours of eating it. Also, i would take the (cooled off) water that I boiled the chicken in...which at that point is chicken broth...and put it in her...
If you've kept her in a clean area and the bleeding has stopped, i personally would flush her one last time and then put a little dab of ointment on the wounds. This is so great to hear! Good job as her caregiver!
It happens. I lost three chicks in one month due to strange and out of nowhere leg mobility. I felt helpless. Im so sorry. She's in a fun place clucking around with tons of other chickens I bet ;-)
