It's been cold and wet here in New England (video)

I know Chickens don't catch colds like we do but this girl is surely congested and I think it's related to the weather. She is currently in my basement taking up residence in the "hospital pen". She seems fine, isn't lethargic but her crop is empty and she feels a little thin to me (but all my...

    Integrating chicks with Adult Guineas

I've had no issues with my Guineas mixing with my birds.. I may just be that you put them in a cage, which the guineas have never seen before, and they were unfamiliar. I'm not an old hand at raising fowl that's just my experiance.

    blind? can't open eyelids.

I just noticed that one of my black silkie chicks (hatched yesterday). Doesn't open either of its eyes... I'm wondering if the lids are just stuck together or if it means it is blind..Has anyone had this happen to them?

Hen just died, feeling guilty - was it sour crop??

TamTam don't feel bad, it wasn't your fault!!! I totally did the same thing last summer with one of my splash silkies Phyllis.. I think I caused her to aspirate using the "turn them upside down" method! I was(and still am) so ashamed of myself but I didn't know any better and neither did you...

    EGG BOUND?? Still not sure!!!!!!!

Are there any other symptoms besides her tail feathers down and not moving much? Are any of the other birds in your flock acting similiar? I might suspect Cocci.. (do a search on here for it). I lost a few last summer to it.. Just a suggestion as an option of what might be going on. Not...

Banty egg bound (so sad just lost her)

Gosh I'm so sorry you lost her. I've got my silkie in the house next to the pellet stove to keep warm. she seems to be eating but not drinking so I'm feeding her fluids with a syringe and tube... Not sure what is going on with her but she is still laying on her side

Silkie hen.. found on her side this morning

The first few warm days and my bird gets sick.. Don't think I can take the stress my silkie hen had been acting a little different, seperating herself from the group at night and sleeping alone but I didn't think too much of it... this morning I opened up the pop door and everyone ran out like...

Are they ready to move to the "big house"?

I have 8 Silkie chickens that just turned 4 months old on the 6th. I would like to move them out to the coop within the next week, they are in my basement right now, and I love it but, the weather is turning nice and I want to use the cages they are in right now for breeding, eventually. They...

How old are our new silkies?? Thoughts on gender??

Gosh I would say your silkies look more like 2 to 3 months old.. I have photos of mine a 2 months and they look about like yours in the photos (with the sheath(not sure if that is what that is called) still around the feathers at the comb area, etc). Mine just turned 4 months old on the 6th and...

They aren't concerned about any of the light colors really Kelley... I was going to have them blinking but didn't want to freak them out too much If I could get little reindeer and elf costumes on these guys and gals I'd try it, ha.ha. I figured they have a good four weeks left at least to be...
