I was asked to take this rooster in for a relative of my daughters dad that lives in city limits.
What would you guess is the breed? He’s currently being quarantined in the tank at night until we get the smaller “teens” moved in with the adults. 🤦🏻♀️
I should clarify I don’t mean the rooster, I’m talking about the lighter hen next to him. This is just the best picture I have from her as we are driving back home and I haven’t gotten any better pictures yet.
Would you say this is a buff or a red Silkie? I have no experience with red but that is what the seller called her, but buff wouldn’t have the streaks unless it has poorer quality, right? Maybe even partridge? Just for curiosity sake wondering other’s opinions.
thanks!
My Silkie hen I noticed today has a very messy looking vent. Until now I have not noticed any abnormal poop (blood, color, etc) to alarm me, so is her vent just a mess because she needs to be cleaned due to the fluff? Or should I be concerned about an illness? She is the only one and no other...
That was only a couple minutes after it busted out. It was chirping loudly and wiggling then about an hour later was moving somewhat around the incubator, but not walking. I did put triple antibiotic over it to try and prevent infection.
When I went to bed it was still moving and chirping. I...
I just had a chick hatch. It has just been belly down chirping and the vent appears to have blood and yolk sack still sticking out a bit. Did it hatch too early? Days wise it isn’t, it’s right at the start of 23, but for itself it would appear it is somehow earlier than it’s little body needed...
The issue I have with adding them into the incubator is that I’m on day 4 of eggs I started and these ones are all at different stages as well so upping the humidity wouldn’t be an option as of yet.
I had to move my 2 broody Silkie hens do to one stealing eggs and ending up with 17 under her after one left her clutch. The other only had 2. We brought them both into the garage and split the eggs between them. It’s been about an hour and neither will sit back on the eggs. Do I cut my losses...
First broody-hatched babies! One didn’t make it, it hatched but passed shortly after. These 3 we just removed from the flock today. So proud of all my Silkie ladies though, it truly was a village of mommas out there. 😂
Mine pipped day 20 for this hatch. But my first batch in my old incubator they didn’t pop until the beginning of day 23 and into 24. There were only 5 that did. The rest never did and day 25 I called it.
They are 3 weeks old. I’m fairly certain both cochins and the maran are definitely roos, but is my RIR bantam and EE/silkie cross too??
My Brabanter x pav I’m not totally sure but may be leaning towards pullet 🙏🏼
Would be my luck on my first hatch I had done to get almost all, if not all...
I was the same when I bought the Farm Innovators one. I didn’t know how well I’d do and how often I would do it so I was weary fo spend a lot but my husband gave me the push to just go for a better one. I’m so glad I did. I definitely would recommend it to you.
