I wasn't I think you misread my post. I was suggesting that for eggs which I believe was the posters goal. I wouldn't suggest hatchery for dual purpose. For dual purpose I would suggest Delawares but my opin is biased LOL
Just eggs? You should get a breed that is know for laying rather than meat or dual purpose. Most likely the inexpensive way is get RIR pullets from a feed store .
Some of our customers have gotten 95% hatch rate on our shipped Delaware eggs- but usually its close to to 80. Some of it is handling and packing but you don't have control over USPS or the weather.
Dave - glad all OK- Did it stop running ? I had one ran out of fuel and they will run off the road and with no power steering its impossible to control
Dave - I don't use artificial lighting and they are bouncing back and forth on production . We have a very small controlled flock. Have not set up for hatching this year . Might set some eggs end of april if I have some orders. Family sickness has thrown us behind this year. We will have eggs...
