Man I would love to have them, as much as you would like to have them go to a forever home, but that's quite a distance. Let me think on it. I also saw your email, and answered that one.... Thanks!
Price open to discussion, obviously. I don't know how to submit a wanted ad with a price....? And it won't let me without putting one.... LOL (Monday somewhere!)
I lost my two roos in a tragedy several months ago. The problem child is under control now and the girls and miss the presence...
Hi--
I've had a couple shell-less eggs over the past six years and... probably 50 chickens? Three maybe. The last one, I went into the coop and the girls were already settled down and one was startled. The egg came out. I put it in the fridge, had it for breakfast the next morning...
My chickens like to stand in mud or muddy water. (I don't like it, but they do.)
I have set a small fan in their coop, but since they tend not to stay in there, that's not been a big factor, I don't think.
The best thing I've done (and I need to set it up again soon), is to hang one of...
On the issue of water inside the coop, we have found that the hens go out of their way to poop in the water if we do that! So their water stays outside, but no dogs allowed in their yard! LOL
I hope you won't take this the wrong way, but I do have a little feedback for your feedback! Chickens are not paint or craft projects, and the rules aren't the same. Birds prefer air that is still. A fan, other than maybe an exhaust fan that pulls air out, would not be a good idea at all...
Just a couple of notes--
I too had heard that vaseline on combs would help, although I never did that (they don't hold still enough!), but frostbite untreated looks like what you described--blackened tips on the combs. I'm in north central Texas and we don't get as bad as some places, as far...
Kudos to you for working so hard at placing them. As an animal lover, I always want to take in the unwanted. But I suspect that with four roosters, and two that only get along with each other, if they came here, they'd wind up in continual conflict.
I'm glad it seems to be working out...
Bubbles got a GREAT home! A young family about 8 miles from us came to get her and have been sending me updates. They love her!
We are going to go visit over the weekend or early next week, and two of our rescue horses in our sanctuary will likely join that little family as well.
God is so...
I have a peahen (named Bubbles) who is tame and used to live down the road. She is the last of that person's flock and I think came up here because I have chickens. But the chickens are a bit worked up over her and I am not at all certain that she wouldn't be happier with others of her own...
Hi, Annabelle--
They are just chickens, and reacting to all kinds of things. Maybe someone else has already posted about that, I don't know. But don't despair!
First, make sure you are feeding them a good standard feed. Layena seems to be the most popular, and I have had good luck with it...
Hi, I'm a neighbor about 20 miles north, in Cannon.
My first chicken purchase, assured by the local feed and seed (now out of business, go figure) were 100% roos. I was told by a misinformed friend that I had to get rid of them, they'd be violent, etc. Because we are soft hearted folks...
I have taken in a couple of roos in need of new homes and while they didn't get along with the boss roo already here, they have been great (and very happy) to run around loose in the pasture with the horses, goats and donkeys. They scratch up fresh poo and eat fly larvae (maggots). I credit...
I am in awe of the earlier posters. Wow....
I always felt like I belonged in the country despite being raised as a military brat, mostly in metropolitan areas or overseas. I got my first chickens in 2009, right after my husband was diagnosed with metastatic cancer--not the best time to start...
I have an animal sanctuary and among my charges are 27 chickens (no one goes to freezer camp here!). Last spring, a peahen showed up from down the road. The previous owner did not want her back--she had had peacocks who, one by one, had disappeared, she thought from bobcats or coyotes. (We...
Get some diatomaceous earth and powder the chickens, change out the straw or whatever in the nest box(es) and coop, and replace with fresh stuff, and put some DE in that as well. This is what I was going to say before I googled. Here's a good article...
