I was just wondering if/when my chickens will start back laying again. I have 10 hens, about 1 year old. They were laying about 8-10 eggs per day last summer/fall and when winter hit they slowed down to about 4-5 eggs per day. Will they start to pick back up? If so, when about? THANK YOU
So I got 10 Production Reds that are about 10-11 months old right now. I was told that they would lay for about 2 years then be done and ready to butcher. Is that accurate and would they be to tough????
Which breed is best all around to raise for a broiler? I have read up a little on it. I have heard people who like Cornish and people who like White Cochins. What are some of your thoughts? Pros and Cons? Thank you all!!!!!!!
Thank you. I can tell they get very excited when I walk in the coop with straw and start putting it into their boxes. I will try the hay. I tried using shavings but I think they like the straw better, so I just stuck with that. It just seems like within the last month I have went through a lot...
I have noticed lately that my straw in the nesting boxes has been getting removed by my chickens. I have not really had a problem with this before. Any body else experience this? Any help/advice????
Lazy gardener, what does your equation mean?
In the scratch I mix, I add extra nuts and seeds i.e BOSS, safflower (sp), roasted peanuts, and sunflower chips, wild bird seed.
EggSighted4Life, so I could of fed my chickens the FF with the worms in it?
So no heat lamp??????
Again, thank you...
They are Productions about 10 months old.The weather has changed by getting a little colder. Although I do keep a heat lamp going. They are still laying really well (avg 8 eggs/day). I do mix scratch (which I mix myself) with the crumbles. About 3 parts crumbles to 1 part scratch. I do let them...
Sorry, I should of been more specific lol. I was talking about the feather loss. I was hoping it was not mites or disease. I tried checking for mites ( which was a little harder than I thought ) and did not see anything out of ordinary. THANK YOU all.
They are Productions and are about 9 months old. It's starting to get cold here. I was told the red light would not bother them but that was "feed store talk".
I put a red heat lamp in my coup and keep it on through the night and was wondering if it messes with my chickens. Any information on this?????? THANK YOU!!!!!
What's the deal with putting Apple Cider Vinegar in the water? How much? How long do you let your chickens have access to it. Most importantly, is it worth it???? Thank you
It had the grayish stuff on top, I would assume that would be the SCOBY???, but it had actual mold on top of that. And when I looked closer, I could see the larvae. Pretty sure it was fruit fly due to the fact that they would be on and around the FF. Sorry I don't have picture.
My batch of FF had mold and worms and I make small batches. I think I am probably going to go back and start feeding regular feed. What are your thoughts and suggestions??????
