Some are confused between a GFCI and an AFCI. A ground fault is to prevent eloctrocution, arc fault is to prevent fire. The myth that you cant use fence charger with a GFCI is false. They work just fine! If it trips, you have a fault in the charger.
We just fenced in a 12 x 24 run, attached to a secure coop. Right now it is a mixture of snow and dirt from the fence installers, who are just finishing up. Chickens get out tomorrow. What should I get in the run to start a good base. I was thinking dumping in 3 or 4 bags of pine chips from TSC...
Had the same thing happen and we lost 4 in one evening before they got in their coop. I bought cages, poison, ammo...then decided I was going the wrong direction. The only way to be safe is with a secure coop and run. We will still let them free range this summer, but only when we are outside...
Get some Blue-Kote with the dauber and coat that wound daily. We had a hen that looked like that and she is all healed up. Kept her in a tub in my office the past month. Her tail feathers were ripped out but they are growing back in. There is hope !!!!

Had cam out last night on live trap cage. Caught a raccoon in it around 5:00 AM. Then I watched another coon come to help and they bent the door and he got out!!! I didnt see the actual escape but he is not in the cage. Escape artist !!!!
Wow, chickens are tough. We had a hen attacked by something and found her in the front yard and looked dead. Horrible wounds. 1 month later and plenty of Blu-Kote, she is laying eggs and feathered out. She has been in a tub in my office. I believe the Blu-Kote fought off any infections.
