The Evolution of Cochin Bantam Chicks
On this page you'll meet our very first home bred Cochin bantam chicks! They're born on 17 May 2009, their daddy is a Buff Cochin Bantam and their mommy a Red Cochin Bantam. It's great to see them grow up... that's why I decided to make this page.

Belgian Hybrids and Cochin Bantams
Hello all! My name is Laura, I'm 20 years old and apparently the first Belgian BYC member! It's not only very educative when it comes to chickens, I'm also learning many new English words; going from coop to DH...
Anyway, things are slightly different here in...
Thanks for all those lovely comments!
@ Chris: I bought her when she was 2 days old (together with some siblings) so I had no idea I would have frizzles. I wasn't really into those myself! Sadly (that was my opinion back then ) 3 out of the 4 chicks turned out to be frizzles. After a while I...
Settler'sDreamFarm :
I love the your birds, and your pictures!!!!
What are you going to do with the males??
Thank you!
The males are for sale, I'm only keeping Danny boy. Or better said; I'll try keeping Danny boy. If my neighbours (or our other roo ) complain, he'll have to go as well, sadly.
Thanks for all your replies! And of course I agree... they're all gorgeous! Too bad though about the boy who used to be a girl... I really wanted to keep "her".

I have absolutely no clue... both of the "multicolour" frizzles have white dots at the end of their feathers, so I guess...
+ 2 non-frizzle chicks and two aunties.

Sweet bro's!
Danny boy turned 12 weeks old this Saturday, love his colour! (buff x red)
No longer a girl...(I think)
Luckily she is!
I believe I can fly..
Pretty auntie Marie!
Et...
They're 6 weeks old today!
Only a few more down feathers to go, I guess the lavender chick will soon have some bold spots... He's growing quite ugly, which makes him very cute!

Right side (or is it the other way around? )
Oh dear, almost a naked neck!
Ain't this...
I've been out for a few days, but boy have they grown! I just got back and since it has been raining all day, I took some very quick shots, now that they're still 5 weeks old.
The blue mottled clearly isn't a blue mottled any longer... still like her though!
If I may quote it over here:

There's nothing wrong with your pictures, I like them! Sharp, great colours, nice DOF, your compositions aren't bad and you've got some great subjects! If you made those with a compact camera, I'd suggest you to keep it because it's a really good one!

Well thank you! They're made with a Canon EOS 400D (in America this model has a different name: Rebel XTi) and with a 50mm f1.8 lens. That's a standard lens, doesn't zoom in or out and it's practically the same distance from your object as looking at that object with your bare eyes...
I'm sorry to bring up an old topic -- but I'd like to know the answer as well! I have a buff rooster and a blue mottled hen. Is there any possible way that I could get millies, starting with them?

Well you can always make a trip through Europe and stop by to pick up my roosters.
They turned 4 weeks yesterday! I'm thinking 2 boys (the lavender and white chick) and two girls.
I know the feeling! In the end they're 'just chickens', but man it's always rough to give them up. It's actually silly how many demands I have for the new homes of our chicks. I even ask them to send me a picture once in a while, to keep me posted about their development. I had a potential...
So sorry about your rooster!
I've been following this topic for quite a while, and by now there must be tons of people with cute little chicks from you. Why don't we get to see pictures of those?! I'm so curious! Come on people, I'm waiting...
