Add some oysters to the catfood and pack some high-protein oyster stuffing into the turkey??? Grandma made oyster stuffing, sans the catfood. LOL
ETA: Aren't all canned foods required to be safe for human consumption by the USDA, including pet foods? Well, maybe not, anymore.
Your silkies don't take no crap! LOL
It's almost dark now, need to go out and close the coop door. Weird thing, my RIR cockerel has taken to laying down in the doorway entry up until it gets dark outside. Seems to me like he's trying to be protective of the other chickens and standing guard. He...
I'm sure I read something somewhere about mahonias not responding well to transplanting, but that might have been about digging them up and moving them.
Chick Update: 3 days old now. I really should band them now so I can tell who's who. Notice the one standing sideways that already has wing feathers growing? New Hampshires are know to be fast feathering birds and I think that would be a trait to try to develop in the flock.
I like that rack idea, but unless I'm missing seeing it I'd say some diagonal bracing would make it much more stable. Maybe it's attached to the wall behind it for support.
I moved the haphazard pallet deer barrier over to the pallet pile under the fir trees today. I'm sure deer will start munching on the tomato vines now.
I've had swordfish just once, pumpkin swordfish that I bought at a seafood shop in St. Augustine FL back in the days I was traveling the country with my RV.
Just the wine, maybe a third of a cup, and about a quarter cup of water when I started the onions to help them break down quicker. The chicken thighs added a lot of flavor.
Do the feral chickens have qualities that you'd like to add to your flock? I'd guess that they are acclimated to your area.
My chicks got their first water and feed today and are acting like little chickens. LOL
I culled one of my NH cockerels that I thought was becoming too aggressive towards me but it might have been a mistake. He had a way with the ladies, and the other two haven't figured out how to treat them right yet. Maybe they will...
Xcell works for me and it's more affordable than Purina. Whether it would make your cock more cocky, I just don't know. LOL
Glad it went well Valerie.
The chicks are all active and eating the crumbles. I'm already seeing personality differences. One of them hangs back away from the others like...
You must have a lot of chickens! I have one RIR cockerel, one NH cockerel, one RIR pullet and 5 New Hampshire pullets. I'm kind of curious how the chicks from a RIR over NH pullet cross would turn out. And vice versa, a NH over a RIR pullet.
I'm trying the X-cell chick starter crumbles this time. I've always used Purina, but it's 18% protein and the X-cel is 20%. Cheaper than Purina too. And they like it!
One of the chicks had its first food this morning. A tiny spider fell into the brooder. A couple chicks pecked it to death and...
I gave the chicks their first water today, dipped a few of their beaks in it so they'd get the idea. I don't think they're very thirsty just yet. But that will change when I start giving them starter crumbles later today. Went to the feed store and got two bags, one all purpose, one starter...
