I can't seem to even get close enough to her to even get a good pick let alone catch her and check feathers. Either way here is a photo I had to fight for. Lol

Thanks Sparklee. That is the coloration that I see. I will check the feathers for shafting soon. All the sites that show you what the bird is supposed to look like use show quality birds typically. I have done a Google image search and think they can look very similar in backyard quality birds.
I just got a new 11 month old laying hen for $3 from Dunlap Hatchery. She has a badly picked tail which is almost non existent. I believe I got her from their medical wing as most of her friends were either badly picked or injured. The good news is she has now been introduced to sun light and...
I to am wondering what neck of the woods that is. I live either in Hayden or Nampa. I hate to say I'm in Nampa right now. Congrats on the new Homestead.
I just got a 50lb bag 0f 21% chick starter from a local feed store for $16. Has anybody else tried this brand and care to comment on quality, etc? It is made in Buhl, Idaho. They also make fish food from the sounds of it. I couldn't find any reviews online on this product. Thanks
Just a kind of funny thought. My father has a Eastern European friend that say the locals where he is from have a special way of dealing with chicken killing dogs. He says catch the dog and put it in a gunny sack with a chicken. Then beat the hell out of the bag with a stick. When the dog comes...
I use to do some plumbing repair for a Rooter company. I have heard some people use a air compressor with a blower attachment to blow air through the line while some one listens to the suspected origin area. Hope that helps you find your source.
Also wondering if the meat on those Rios is dark like the Merriam's Turkeys I hunt. I would prefer a bird more on the white meat side of the spectrum. I get at least one dark meat wild turkey most years.
I'm considering getting a couple turkeys from Dunlap Hatchery. They have three breeds. I want a smarter bird that also can be bred. Here is a link to their site. Are their Bronze turkeys the ones that can breed on their own? Are any of these breeds "Heritage" types. Thanks for your time...
Weather your watching or not. They will establish a new pecking order. Just watch for damage on all the birds. You are bound to loose a feather or two in this process. Just make sure to keep an eye out for tissue damage. I wouldn't integrate until at least 7 weeks of age myself to. Also your...
Cutting feathers can cause unwanted blood loss. I would suggest either leaving them alone or get a towel wet with warm water. Hold it over their rears until it is soft enough to wipe away. I have use the towel trick before. It works.
Also just wondering. I now have the chickens outside. However they don't roost on the perches or set in the nesting boxes.
They all just lay by the front door. Is this normal? Will they eventually start filling in? I could have made an empty box if that's
the case. LOL
Here is a good link. http://www.feathersite.com/Poultry/CGP/Spanish/BRKWFBS.html I have one WFBS Bantam that is 8 weeks old now. So far I really love this chicken. Smartest chicken I have by far. Also the best bug eater to date.
