Cayuga Duck Eggs- odd color yolks

Update: my other ducks now are having odd colored yolks. It is no where near as dark as my Cayuga gal, but they all are a bit different looking. I don't remember this happening last year, but it is possible that the Khaki Campbells were staying closer to the hen house last fall.

Cayuga Duck Eggs- odd color yolks

I have had chickens for several years, but this is only my second year with ducks. We have Khaki Campbells and this year we bought Cayugas from Rural King. They are beautiful birds, but out of the four we bought, three were drakes. One didn't make it to adulthood. Anyway, my Cayuga gal started...

    Easter Egger Rooster Western Kentucky

We have one roo too many and would like to rehome this pretty boy. He was a year old May 1st. He does his job with the girls, but is somewhat aggressive with small children. My kids have not been hurt by him, but they have been scared which is why he is the roo to go. His tail is much...

Tammy Lynch, I am also in Hopkins County. Hodgepodge Farm has a hatchery, but as far as I know they don't have Tolbunts or Silkies, but they are in St. Charles.

Yeah, I know how that is. I only wanted a few guineas to help with ticks. I only got the chickens to help socialize the guineas. I wound up with 19 guineas and 22 chickens! Unfortunately, thanks to predators, I am down to one guinea. I still have 16 chickens. Only lost two when they were...

    Sneaky Fox steals breakfast

I'm trying to trap a red fox, but so far, I've just fed it bait. Sorry for your loss. Foxes aren't nearly as cute as they were before I had chickens.

    Let chickens be moms.

I have an almost year old buff orp who is broody and now proudly sitting on 15 guinea eggs. She's had them for two weeks and shows no sign of wanting to leave them. For me, as a new chicken keeper, the way I could tell broody from just wanting to be left alone to lay an egg was my broody girl...

    Best/Worst types of bedding

Regarding the danger of cedar bedding, I have used pine shavings with my flock. But my flock free ranges and nearly everyday I have found someone dust bathing in the cedar sawdust from my Dad's little sawmill. They all seem plenty healthy. And I couldn't keep them away from the sawdust pile if I...
