    Turkens

I have purchased Turkens from both Cackle and McMurry Hatchery. Hands down, the better quality Turkens by MILES come from Cackle. I even had a pullet from Cackle win Champion of her class at the National Western Stock Show (she is the black bird on my avatar). Good luck, they are my favorite...

can someone be a friend with me on backyard chickens?

Consider me your new cyber friend! I just moved to a small town and am having problems making new friends myself. I love having any type of friends!

Loving my chicks from Freedom Ranger Hatchery!

Wow! Just have to share my experience with my chicks from Freedom Ranger Hatchery. They are the most curious, rowdiest group of chicks I have EVER had. They are almost two weeks old now, are feathering out beautifully, and eating up a storm. I have not lost a single chick, and no pasty...

    Crazy in rural Colorado

Yeah, I know, I really am grateful we are not on the streets. But some days it just seems so very surreal. We have some sweet tumbleweed here. It's fun to hit them with your car! It's mostly this weird mustard weed though, oh, and ragweed, which my hens LOVE!!! That's one of the best things...

    Crazy in rural Colorado

Not really my choice. I had a great house in Littleton, with my chickens, dogs. Then my health went south, and guess what? I *AM* one of those millions of American's who cannot afford health insurance (heck, I couldn't get it if I tried). Then I got Lupus and couldn't work--DH is on...

    Crazy in rural Colorado

True. Maybe we should start just keeping a log of the crazy stuff we see people do. I'll start. Two days ago my MIL stopped over and turned around to show us her butt. "Look I have a butt now!" she said proudly. DH and I looked at each other, clueless. MIL then pulled a wad of bubble wrap...

    Crazy in rural Colorado

So I just moved to--well, not the country, more like a conservative rural city in southeast Colorado. I am going out of my CRAZY liberal mind here. There is literally nothing to do! I live 30 feet from my in-laws, my "backyard" is full of my FIL's junk (3 non-working tractors, a rusted out...

    Pet Store Rant

That is so sad. I am a goldfish nut. I rescued four feeder goldfish from an idiot I worked with fifteen years ago who was given them away to co-workers as gifts in betta cups!! First they lived in a ten gallon tank, then a 20 gallon tank, then I bought them a 55 gallon tank, then I bought...

    Fox!

Good Point FLchickens! One of my coops is hardwire cloth and the other is fieldwire with chicken wire over it. You have to have both because fieldwire has too large of spaces and chickens will stick their heads through and get them eaten! Hardware cloth is the most expensive, but keeps...

    Fox!

I feel for you. I live smack dab in the middle of the city and we have foxes visit us all the time. I just my new babies out yesterday and this morning our friendly neighborhood fox stopped by--three times. I let my dogs chase him off twice before I made my own introduction - with my BB gun...

Has anyone had Lasik? Update: DONE!!!!

Don't worry!! I had it done about eight years ago and I LOVED it!! I had no discomfort other than some dry eyes (just use lots of drops!!). Just wear the funny goggles at night so you don't rub your eyes. I love that I can see without glasses in the rain!! It is so worth it! Don't put it off!!

    Hen is always squaking. Why?

My Americauna (probably Easter Egger) "Nell" is a squawker too. You would think she lays golden eggs (IF ONLY!!) instead of green ones. I don't think she is in any pain, she is just super proud!

who else has chicks in the house??

I kept our chicks in our guest bedroom in a kiddie wading pool. Sorry guests, just push that pool aside... is it hot in here? Tee hee!! I eventually moved them to the garage, but I found it strange that people started their chicks outside....

Back Yard Chickens Forum (and my hard work!) Saved My Chicks!

I just had to post this to gush over my success and thank everyone who posts on here sharing their experience on dealing with cocci! My poor babies came down with the dreaded disease this last Sunday. BYC to the rescue!! Blog #1 told me what they had, blog #2 told me what to get and what...

    Runt Broiler Chick

...pictures. I have the exact same problem! I bought egg layers and broilers and was raising them seperately and thought maybe the hatchery (who I *thought* gave me an extra broiler chick) gave me the a white rock instead. I was feeling guilty that I put this chick in with the broilers...

    Torn ACL in Dog

AMEN to the above!! You MUST restrict your dog after ACL surgery!!!! I wish we had a cast or a brace on crazy Sophie, but we did not. Still, it all turned out ok, after weeks and weeks of kenneling. *SIGH.*

    Torn ACL in Dog

...and ignore them. I spent time in the kennel with her, massaging her leg and performing range of motion exercises. While I believe small dogs *may* be able to handle not having surgery, larger, active dogs would really have a tough time living with so much pain. Sophie, two years later...

Egg color of Americauna has changed? Anyone ever had this happen?

Nellie has started laying again, and is back to laying green eggs. Her one blue egg was not as blue as the one posted earlier in this post, but it was still very blue. Weird. Gotta get her paint factory fixed I guess...

Awesome, thanks everyone! My customer who loves the "Green Eggs with Ham" may be bummed, but I think it's hysterical!
