"Mamading's" Farm
Welcome to my page. I live in north central wisconsin. I'm a work at home mom to three kids: Boys- 13 and 9 and girl- 1. My husband grew up helping his mom with her little farm of horses, chickens, and pigs. So he has a little experience in all this. One day this past...
I think 5 months just like when a girl is old enough to lay eggs. I could be wrong. It might even be as long as 8 months. If someone knows for sure feel free to correct me.

Wow, what a small world!! My mom and step-dad live in Port Huron too! I know the town is a pretty good size so you may not be familiar with all the streets but they live on Howard Street.
The chickens (no matter what age) will peck at it on themselves. It's part of their preening. I've even seen my silkies raise a foot up and pick the stuff off that is stuck to the feathers on their feet and legs.
I've done a search and didn't find anything right away and it's late at night so I don't want to keep looking. So forgive me if this is a worn out question.
At what age do males start to crow?
I'm wondering because 1 of my 12 "pullets" that I received from Sunnyside Hatchery June 5th (so they'll...
Nope, it will not hurt the other eggs at all. In fact it encourages the others to hatch sometimes. I had 7 bobwhite hatch on Mother's Day and didn't discover any had hatched until 3 were out already. Aren't they just the cutest tiniest babies ever?!
I thought I could get them to be tame but no...

We'll be starting our second year of homeschooling soon. 2 sons 8th grade and 4th grade. My daughter will be 2 years old in December and I keep her busy with blocks or color wonder markers (the kind that mark on the special paper) she also likes to play "dump out and fill up" with measuring cups...
Mine is in the kitchen in the homeschool area. I have my last three silkie eggs in there that are due to hatch on the 9th of August. If this hatch goes well I'll have a total of 9 silkies that hatched a few weeks apart. Then my sister is bringing me 6 silver laced wyandottes that will be a day...
Oh my gosh that is huge!! Do they cause highway accidents? I imagine if they got squished on the road that would make quite a slippery spot. Sort of like mayfly season around here and that one place that has a problem with all the crabs on the road and everywhere.

I am thrilled the lonely one got company, not only for the lone chick but for the "mama"
You got that right. I was so worried about her peeping all the time before the new roomates arrived. She would not only peep like crazy but race back and forth along the side of the brooder...
I have some good news. I bought two new friends for the lonely chick at Jim Peck's Wildwood, in Minocqua, WI yesterday. My sister and i were admiring their silkies and wyandottes (that's the next breed I'm getting!) and then I saw a sign "chicks for sale". I told my oldest son to go find the...

Well, his dad and I talked and I was warned that I might not hear from ds for a couple days this weekend, because he got grounded.
I'm sorry I have to comment on this one.
Grounding should NEVER include not talking to MOM!!!

My son wants quail, so I thought about trying to hatch some.
I wish you lived closer. I'd give you the 5 quail that I have that hatched on Mother's Day.
