Two silkies hatched yesterday. Pictures!

Hi Mamading
My son finally got home and told me how to post (again!) Anyway here is a pic of a white silkie with the silver gene. She hatched out dark blue and then feathered out white! She is beautiful!! This picture was taken when he was about two weeks old.

This is a picture that I just went outside and took of her. She was hatched on 5/17/07. She is so lovely!

Wow that is so neat how the feathers came in different like that. It almost looks like she's wearing a shawl/cape! Beautiful girl you have there!

Update on the babies. I'm down to one now. The weak one died this afternoon. I put a mirror and a little stuffed animal in there for company. The lonely chick is peeping like crazy!! Hopefully the mirror and stuffed animal will do until new chicks hatch on the 30th

I have three blue silkie eggs in the incubator now. Hopefully it goes better with this set. I will keep everyone who's interested updated on here.

I have some good news. I bought two new friends for the lonely chick at Jim Peck's Wildwood, in Minocqua, WI yesterday. My sister and i were admiring their silkies and wyandottes (that's the next breed I'm getting!) and then I saw a sign "chicks for sale". I told my oldest son to go find the nearest staff person and ask them to come over and help us out. So two came over and before long I had the two new silkie chicks in a box and I was beside myself with excitement!! I inquired about their silver laced wyandottes and they said no, they're not for sale. They are the owner's pride and joy and I said, oh yes I can see why. They were absolutely beautiful. Anyway I had to help one of the wyandotte hens back into the pen because she escaped. The staff was grateful. Too bad that didn't give me the privelege of taking one home. LOL
Anyway, here are the three silkies together in the picture below. I figured the small white silkie is about a week old and the big one is probably between 2-4 weeks old. The staff didn't know how old they were. Oh well, not a big deal. I'm just thrilled that the lonely chick now has company and is not peeping her head off anymore!!!

You got that right. I was so worried about her peeping all the time before the new roomates arrived. She would not only peep like crazy but race back and forth along the side of the brooder. Now she's real calm and snuggles with the other two when sleeping. I used to have to hold her all the time when I was watching tv or sitting at the computer. Now I can hold her some of the time and not feel bad.
Thank you everyone on the wonderful support and comments. My sister is heading back to Ohio on tuesday and taking one of my boys with her for a couple weeks and when she comes back on the ninth of August she is stopping by Ridgeway Hatchery and picking up 6 silver laced wyandottes for me!!!! I didn't want to order from them and have them shipped because the minimum order is 25 and I don't have room for that many. I'm so excited. I can't wait! I of course will send pictures of the wyandottes when they get here.

wow, that is so nice about you getting the new chicks in Aug. I wish I could get some more breeds but you know I now have 29 chickens of different ages, four ducklings, and seven guineas, maybe I had better stop? ha ha Seriously, I want to have the room for everyone come winter where they all can be together and stay warm.
We have the old family homestead on the farm here and it has two decent sized rooms downstairs and one small add-on the back of it. My dh turned the back room into a coop for me. It is over 100 years old. My husband is reroofing it and has added a large lean-to to use as a garage. I will have to post photos. he is then planning on putting up the same metal siding that is on the garage part all around the old house. I am thinking, I will need another room in that old house.

Even though my DH was planning on using those rooms to work in.
