My coop has vinyl flooring and I've been doing deep litter with pine shavings. I haven't cleaned it since spring, it doesn't smell, and its so dry you wouldn't believe it.
It definitely isn't composting, but it doesn't look like its full of poop either... Almost breaks down into dry dirt.

Rast,
When you get a nuc has the queen already taken this mating flight? Or is this done once they move into the new hive? I am assuming since a nuc comes with brood that this would have happened, but it's all new to me.
I picked up my new deep brood boxes, frames and foundations etc the other...
So I noticed a small blackish looking scab. I'm pretty sure maybe its a mild case of bumblefoot that causing her to limp and fold her toe in.
Not a great picture, but could this be what I'm dealing with? Bad for her, but better for me than a case of Mareks.
What should I do here? would it be...

Ive already contacted the breeder. She offered to trade that chicken back but if it is mareks then I dont want anything else from her.
Ill look into a blood test.
Thanks

One of them never looked well. Her tail was always down and her comb is short because she is young, but also very pale. All of a sudden I noticed one day her middle toe had...
As far as the chickens go, its likely a way to monitor people to be sure they are following municipal by-laws.
Ill post up when I get my nuc and let you know about the bees.
Not as far as i know, but maybe when i pick up my nuc ill be entered into a government database... who knows, its all new to me. My local feedstore was gonna make me fill out a govt. form to order chickens so i bought mine from another local farmer so im off the radar here so far. Haha
I've been at it now for about 2 weeks. They are new pullets so I am isolating them anyways, but also treating for leg mites. I'm hoping to get them in the "general population" soon.
Thanks
Not a great pic, but here is the legs of my poor girl with mites. Ive been oiling her for over a week and added some teatree oil in the last couple days. Some scales are lifting up, others not. When is it safe to introduce her to my flock? Isolation must suck and ive only got 2 eggs from her in...
