I would like to have the nutritional breakdown of my eggs. Can someone point me in the direction of some organization that can perform this analysis for me?
hmm... I could get her some fertile duck eggs. Good idea. Would she brood fertile chicken eggs? I am having such bad luck with mail ordered eggs these days.
ok, so it is not that strange then. My ducks are pretty much wild. They live outside on the pond and come up for treats and morning feeding.
It is great if they want to go in the coop to lay their eggs, at least I get to keep them. I figured they would lay them out in the field or something.
This morning I went out and threw some cat food around as treats for the chickens and poured some feed in a dish for the remaining 2 Muscovy ducks that have managed to survive loose around my house. I then went to open the chicken coop to let the chickens out. I watched in disbelief as one of...
yeah, that is what I was afraid of on both accounts. What am I supposed to do with these guys? I didnt want any chicks right now as I have 41 eggs in the brooder. I certainly didnt want 11 cockerels. I cant just kill them.

so today I lost the 3 black copper merans chicks I had my cochin hen hatch out of the $50 eggs I got from the BYC auction area. I did not loose any other hens, just the 3 3-4 week old chicks. I wonder if it is the same culprit. My pond is about 50 yards from my coop.
By the way, I am doing research on minks to understand them a little better. Everything I have read says they are noctournal. This happened in the daylight between 9am and 12p.
I had no idea we even had minks in northern KY. OK. I ordered some mink traps and attractant. I guess if I put a trap outside the hole I will find out one way or another what it is.
I had one of my Muscovys go missing this afternoon. I went looking for her only to find a wing covering a muskrat hole. When I went to get the wing I find that it is not just a wing, but most of the bird pulled down into the hole. everything from her crop to her skull was stripped to the bone...
BTW: The people we got them from are mixing their own feed from soy and such bought by the ton. It would not surprise me to learn they where a little vitamin deficient. I have noticed a marked improvement in their over all appearance since we got them a week ago. Their feathers and skin look a...
They are about 6-8 weeks old I believe. They still have little tufts of baby fuzz, but mostly feathered. How did you administer the niacin? I need to do some research.
