Well she just passed :( it breaks my heart this one would jump up on my shoulder and arms I was so attached to her. I just wish there was something I knew to do but I guess whatever happened was just too much for her to handle
They are locked up in their pen at night. Not cold and no predators in the coop or signs of predators. No signs of illness. The rest were all in the sheltered area huddled up but these two appeared to just have been in the open area and for whatever reason
We had a terrible storm last night and I went out to check the chickens around 11pm it was pouring rain.....I noticed two of my hens laying in the puddles of rain water. I grabbed them fearing they had drowned but they were still breathing. I wrapped them up but after an hour one died. The other...
Thanks! It's not crusty as of yet, my kids said that they saw it touch the heating unit in the incubator so I'm not sure if it's too late. It acts fine and seems like it can see so I guess I'll just watch it. I do have the saline solution like in the link you posted. Thanks!!
I'm so sorry for your loss! I was really hoping that the update would be a good one :( I would get a necropsy done for sure! That way if it is something infectious you'll know what it was to treat the rest!
Yeah if she's alot smaller they could hurt her badly or even kill her. With the play pen method you can keep her in the playpen (kennel or something they can see each other through) then when you know you won't be going back out take the playpen out keep her separated from them at night do that...

Try that link.....the scoop on poop there are photos of what's normal and what's not and tells what the cause may be.....Worms is listed on one of the yellow poops which is what I said in my earlier post not...
I had a rooster RIR that broke his leg in one of the nesting box bars. I splinted it and kept him in a some what small plastic tub food water. I had to give him a bath every couple days as he couldn't or wouldn't stand to poop for about the first week.....anyway! He stayed in the tub around 2...
Have you wormed them lately? She may have worms of some sort. Also when mine get like that I give them electrolytes in their water or Save-A-Chick powder is sold in most supply stores. Usually that will perk them up a bit. If the others begin to peck at her I'd separate her put her in a kennel...
If you can put the new one in a dog crate or kennel that she can't get out of and they can't get her......it's called the playpen method that way they can see each other and get close but not too close until they become better acquainted. When I've done this i let them stay in the playpen for...
I've had this happen before but as much as you wish to help try not to unless it's the last resort.....when this happened to me I used a q-tip and wet the dry exposed membrane then I took a wash cloth wet it with warm water and put in the incubator to help with the humidity.....if that doesn't...
I'd just be careful adding to the established flock right when you bring the new ones home. I bought two marans from someone brought them home put them in the coop with my others who I had for 4 years had to cull them all due to MG. I was heart broken. Symptoms don't show until they are...
Also when they are dried out I always take a q-tip and wet it with warm water to wet around the area of the shell that I'm helping to wet the membrane. When it becomes transparent again you can see if there are blood vessels that are intact still. If I see large veins I stop and put it back in...
I have helped my chicks hatch before when they were stuck I have had a couple to die even though it seemed fine at first. I even had one to live almost a whole week was eating and drinking fine but those two (I didn't realize it until they died) had part of what looked to be like intestinal...
