Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

1st generation cross can pop frame of one parent and not the other. Selecting only birds that come close to the desired body type in addition to the coloration would get there faster, but could still be done in about 3 crosses. Langshan are similar sized to the Houdans and are solid colored, so...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Silkies aren't the only featherfooted breed. Brahmas, Cochins, Faverolles, Sultans, Langshans, and French Marans all are featherfooted. NONE of those are black skinned, nor are they derived from silkies. And silkies are fully crested. Being as the CnC are a partial crest, there MUST be a...

Not in the Dorkings, but, yes. Crested breeds have existed for a long time.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

That's why I think they're using a mottled cochin and/or a light Brahma in the making of them. Pics show weird combs (the V-comb of the houdan will do strange things). Brahmas have pea combs and one of the pics shows a comb that doesn't look like a weird rose comb, but could easily be a weird...

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Houdans and Dorkings are 5 toed and clean legged. Silkies, faverolles, and sultans are 5 toed and feather footed. Houdans, silkies and sultans are crested. Houdans, faverolles, and SOME silkies are bearded. Dorkings have been in existence as a breed in England since the time of the Romans....and...

No, a mottled houdan mix, taking the crest down to a partial crest size so trimming is less needed. Thing was so interesting that I would consider these.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

That one isn't a silkie mix. It's a mottled houdan mix.

Fluffy Butt Acres: Stories of our flock

Those very much do look like new feathers. Every batch of chicks I have goes through a phase of "tatty" tail feathers with new ones growing in around them. Until the hackle/saddle feathers start coming in (12-14 weeks), the only feather gender indicators I watch for are the breast colors...
