Lost my Roo to a neighbors dog.

Im searching now for a South American Coochin but other breeds as long as they are not large birds I might consider. The girls are seeming more flighty and nervous less anxious to approach. Its like they forget then remember something and scoot for cover, no tossing them a treat rather drop and...

Lost my Roo to a neighbors dog.

I resolved the problem and don't see any similar problems in the future. Had him for almost 5 years with his five hens, a very tight knit family. This happened about 3 weeks ago and the girls seem to be managing. They free range and are establishing new routines. My concern is they seem to be...

    Integrating hens??

I like to keep the new birds away and out of site then after dark and when the others have gone to roost for an hour or so then I set the new birds on a roost and let them wake together. Ive never had an incident. Its like they have always been together and the new birds free range with the...

    Does anyone else Free Range?

Nothing pains me worse than indiscriminate killing of wildlife up to and including predators. They are all part of the eco system and I go out of the way to accommodate pesky possums, coon and any of the rest. Im not saying I wont shoot them but if they are only stealing cat food and not trying...

3 Grain Chicken Scratch Corn Bread

I buy my scratch from the local co-op or Hoopers Feed in town. With both I seem to always have excess waste. The 5 grain from the co-op I loose about 20% in Barley they ignore it totally so I scatter it and seed the driveway to keep the gravel in place during heavy rains so it not really wasted...

    Live trapping preditors and releasing.

The OP may or may not have fab'ed the story but it sure sent a good message well done and made me chuckle . I have more of a problem with 'cuz" and live trap has been successful but usually it takes a while for the family to be erradicated. Possum aint too smart and easy trap but the families...

Lost a loved bird, SWEET revenge - this is graphic

No one is forcing you to say/do anything. Its a decision you made yourself. As I read your arguments I feel even more confident in what I do to resolve my predator problem. Killing a predator when it imposes on a stable environment is an instance where the end justifies the means, my...

    How bad is our hen?

Is there a vet that can look at her? If she is helpless the other birds may not be good around her. Good to keep her separated until she doesn't come across as injured or wounded. So sorry she met with such trauma. Vets often look at chicken as expendable. Sad I know.

Anyone use/own a pellet gun (update: got one)

Quote: Be very careful maybe ask your gunsmith but its a little tricky to do it safely. Ive never work on a pullet gun but any trigger work should be approached with caution. Pellet guns are great for small game and pest control.Triggers are best left to a gunsmith. Sure hate for you to have...

    Bobcats (non-graphic pics)

Beautiful creature. I haven't seen any around here for a few years though folks comment about seeing them. My wife saw one a couple of years ago and I'm sure there around. I recall seeing their scat (rabbit hair). What does your game warden recommend? Do you see a lot of them?
