    Pekin niacin deficiency

Buy human Vit B3 or vit B complex from a pharmacy. It will be pricey as the duckling needs 100mg niacin a day. The bottle of human Vit B complex I recently bought only provided doses for 5 days

Mandarin duck chick with birth defect?

Welcome to BYC. Sorry it has taken so long to get you a response. It's hard to know what is causing your mandarin's issues. I have never raised mandarins but I doubt that it is a mandrin specific issue. Just like in other animals, ducks can have congenital problems. We have no way of...

    Pekin niacin deficiency

I have a rescued jumbo pekin drake that is now 9 weeks old. He had severe niacin deficiency in his third week of life that has resulted in bowed tibia bones in his legs. He is on durvet high level vit B compound, which I am now giving in his water. I make up half a gallon water with 8mls durvet...

Duck--any idea what's wrong with my boy's eyes?

Your boy, @amdolphinlvr, has a watering eye that is staining the surrounding feathers. I cannot tell you what is causing it. The eye in the photo doesn't look inflamed (red color, swelling of the eye membranes) which I would expect with infection. I have 2 now 9 week old jumbo pekin drakes...

How did you succeed introducing ducklings to a broody duck?

This last couple of months, I have had 2 rescued ducklings out into a compartment of my duck house from ~6 weeks, once the night low temperatures stayed above 65F. It's the temperature rather than the age that determines when they went out. They were see, no touch during the day with a fenced...

    Rehoming Muscovy Duckling

Although I take in ducklings to rehab and release or rehome, I cannot take this one as I cannot keep a disabled female duck with my all male flock. I have recently taken a disabled pekin drake. It's not the disability that is the problem, it's the sex. That little one cannot be released it has...

    Two ducks in four days.

Welcome to BYC. I am in St Augustine and my ducks free range in my backyard during the day. It is a very tree and shrub shaded garden with open areas that get sun near the house. At night, my ducks are in a 5' x 10' kennel from Tractor Supply. I have made it predator proof and duck safe by...

Help, duck pulled feathers out of tail

That wound needs cleaning up with salt water, then spraying with antiseptic. I recommend using Kote Blue (gentian violet) as a red wound will incite biting by the other ducks. Also, it is important to secure ducks in a predator proof duck house at night. Ducks ate unlike chickens, and cannot be...

My duckling won’t stop biting everything and me

My daffy, did OK for 2 or 3 days and then became depressed. Horrible to see him lying on a stuffed duck child's toy and doing nothing. So I had to handle him and keep him close by my all the time. He loved it on my table between me and my laptop when I was working. I had little toys for...

My duckling won’t stop biting everything and me

I hand reared a rescued duckling that was found as a day old running round a parking lot in a rainstorm late in the evening. I couldn't get ducky friends until he was 6 weeks old. Meanwhile he was obsessed with trying to remove the 4 Microsoft squares from the bottom left of my laptop keyboard!

    Duckling age?

I'm in NE Florida and my 2 had spent 2 nights outside before they were rescued and given to me. The person who rescued them thought they were 4 weeks old ( TSC told them that (but must have been going by their size not their feather development.) They didn't have any feathers and only got those...

    Duckling age?

The duckling already has whispy feathers in the close up, so it might be 3 weeks. Not older. The feathers should start coming in soon and fast! They will be noticeable across the top of the wings looking like little wing caps. Most ducklings are fully feathered by 7 weeks, 8 weeks at the latest...

    Duckling age?

I can't see the tail. The first sign of feathering is little whispy changes at the tip of the tail. That usually starts at 2-3 weeks old. Assuming there are no whispy changes on the tail, the duckling is 2 weeks or less.
