I clean my poop boards daily and it takes me about 5 minutes (currently have 10 hens). The coop itself gets cleaned out twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. I shovel all the chips out into the run to help deal with spring/fall rains, wipe down the surfaces with a...
This is Monster Truck (beware of letting teenagers name your chicks) who is a Swedish Flower Hen. Her sisters Salt and Peppah, two Ameracaunas are behind her.
Aart, our stove is induction, so there is very little excess heat. That plus the fact that we mainly use the front burners keeps the eggs from heating up. I do stick the eggs that I am selling or donating in cartons in the fridge.
I built an “egg slide” based on another member’s design. It is awaiting stain and poly as I wanted a test of the angle before committing to a finish.
This is a VERY simple construction - inside cove molding (see 4th photo for what that looks like in profile) with two scrap pieces glued on...
Should is such a strong word.... I really think that you SHOULD be figuring out this 1-wire network so that you can eventually write up a handbook for us lesser mortals.:D
JT, is this directly above the roosts?
I have a box fan that I have plugged into a timer that comes on at 8pm and goes off at 7am. It was mainly to keep the mosquitoes off the chickens while they were roosting, but now that it is getting hotter I’m considering running it 24/7. It’s sitting in...
Thank you guys! I had googled it first, but I don’t always trust google when it comes to proper nouns. It is funny in this age of doing almost everything online that we almost never have to expose our ignorance like this!
I wasn’t sure where else to put this. I have always love Wyandotte hens in all their variations, but I have never actually heard the name pronounced. Can anyone tell me definitively, is it “why-an-dot” or “why-an-dote”?
Finally home from surgery and finally got to visit with my girls! I had a lamenectomy and spinal decompression done, they ended up having to go further up and down than they expected C4 through C7. Temporarily in an Aspen collar as a comfort measure (not wearing it in the first photo so I can...
Me with my two favorites (which is why I got Buffs) Velma and Thelma....
Going in for another neck surgery on Tuesday so I will either A) not be on here for awhile or B) be on here all the time (depending on hospital WiFi and my ability to stay awake).
That’s my guess. They also sent blocks to stick in the larger ports so they don’t climb inside when they are small. The blocks look like they came straight from a 3D printer (cleaned up and all, but don’t have the look of a spin mold).
Hey @aart, It is easy to lift the shelf up, there are blocks in the back to keep it from sliding off the pins and there is an elastic on the top of the box that latches to a eyehook on the front of the shelf to hold it in a vertical position so I can clean out the area.
The wedge shape wasn’t...
It’s moving day! I’ve been so busy painting that I haven’t had time take & post photos.
I have a flip up door with food and water on the other side. Eventually the food and water will move to the run, but this will be handy for now. There was no particular reason for the slats, I was just...
No, the shop is the same temp as the coop. I really want to have it insulated, but it wasn’t in the budget when we built the house. Our shop/garage is separate from the house, so it doesn’t even share an insulated wall. The “garage” is a storage area for bikes/lawn equipment and we park in a...
