My girl has 6 RIR and they have been laying wonderfully. Her project is to try and determine which chicks are laying which eggs. We tried a suggestion about putting food coloring on the vent but it didn't work because the eggs are brown. Is there another clever way of doing this besides getting...
Our RIR's started laying about 3 weeks ago. They are really getting the momentum going too. No matter how big or small the eggs, almost all have been double yolks. Is this a sign of good nutrition or just luck and will they eventually turn back to singles once they get older?
Our RIRS are the coolest. They will follow me and my girl around right at our feet waiting for us to kick up grasshoppers and other bugs..it's so funny. If they are far away and we find a bug, we can call to them, pointing at the ground and they will come running to investigate.
My RIRs are only 3 1/2 months old and we found two eggs in the hen house today. My girl went crazy... One was almost regular size and the other was half that. I'm thinking they are from two different hens but does this seem early? Not complaining
