i know it is probibly a lost cause, but is there any tricks to keep grass in your run.. they eat/scratch it down so fast. i have no real reason for this other than cosmetic, and well with winter coming(freezing and thawing) i am sure it will be a nasty mess. plus spring rains.. so does anybody...

i keep hearing/reading to give oyster shell to laying hens only... is there a ill affect to giving pre laying. or roo's other than wasting, and it is not mixed in with the crumbles. it would be free choice
i just recently got into keeping chickens, and i purchased a coop from a friend. and it has no roost in it but had a shelf about 16 inches wide, running the width of the coop, around 4 foot high.. also has a ladder giving easy acces(although they can make that jump). my question is, is this good...
