    Still homeless...

Still staying on brother's ranch, CCCCC. Found out one thing, I don't want a ranch some day after all. Give me a bit of property with a huge backyard (half acre or a quarter will do) with avocado, lemon and apricot trees on it. While I'm at it, let it face northwest to southeast please to catch...

    Having to give up chickens...

I'm sad to say we have to move and won't be raising chickens for a while. They all have a home to go to, so that's a relief. Its been such fun and quite enlightening to raise these ladies. Chickens aren't at all the "people" I always thought they were. I'll still hang in there with byc if its...

    Time for Thinking

Okay, I'm so jealous of our dog, Snoopy. How come he has time to sit on the swing and just ponder life and I don't?

EE newbie laying eggs in yard

Thought only one of my newly laying EE's was laying. Found out yesterday she must have been laying eggs in the yard while free ranging for the past three days. Snoopy, our beagle, was playing with something green. Sure enough, an egg. I took it from him (only two tiny tooth marks on it). Later I...

    Funny joke in newspaper

This was in yesterday's paper: So, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid walk into a Dept. of Defense briefing. The president is informed that two Brazilian soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan. To everyone's surprise, the three of them collapse on the conference table, heads in hands...

    Happy B'day to DGD

I have to say happy birthday to our granddaughter. We wouldn't have chickens in the backyard if it wasn't for her. She just turned 11 and we started raising chickens when she was 8. Happy b'day Gemma.

    no eggs in 45 days

Can't believe it. Not a single egg. My hens are only going on two years old. At least they're earning their keep with their composting skills and their delightful personalities. If things keep going the way they are, we'll cancel cable and just watch the girls for entertainment.

found ee on top of coop

I heard a lot of squawking in the backyard (hens were free-ranging) and ran out to see who was causing trouble. Decided to put them all in time out (back in pens) but couldn't find brown ee. I heard a brauk-brauk and looked up. There she was on top of coop, looking at me like "well, how'd I get...
