    Sick duck

I posted a week ago thinking my duck had lead poisoning, turns out, I think it's zinc. I lost two, now I have one more recovering. She is improving, but not eating. I give her peas when I put her in the bathtub, but she doesn't eat much. Any suggestions on food that a duck cannot refuse?

    Lead poisioning

My duck got into some lead paint. We've have problems before and had one necropsied at the vet school and she came up positive. We cleaned the area, but we have a sick one again. Partial paralysis and bright green diarrhea. She's inside. The rest are locked up in their pen. Can't find anyone to...

    What breed is this,?

I got this lil duck a couple weeks ago. I have had runners and calls for years, I was told it was a rouen. Is it? It's not a Mallard is it? Does not get along with the others. Was told it was a female, the two males I have won't leave her alone. I have ten females. Not a sound out of "her", no...

    Duckling brooder

Hi all! Just ordered 12 female runner ducklings. The most I've ever done is 6. We have a chicken coop that we were thinking about using with a space heater with a thermostat, but then there's the scorching daytime temps. It has a18" x 36 inch opening covered hardware cloth. I don't know what to...

    Missing duck

One of my runner ducks went missing today. Yard is secure, he doesn't fly, no feathers all over the place. Any ideas? Seems late in season for mink, we've seen one before during the day, but the bird is gone, not just a bloody mess.

    Duck friends

Look this is funny. I don't know what goes on in a ducks head but this is so cute. Barney, Leonard and Daphne hang out all day. They don't try to hook up with her, and chase off anyone who does. She's just not interested, and they defend her honor.

    Duck incubation

Hey all! I have a few duck eggs cookin'. Two are farther along. Movement and lots of veins. The others are pretty veiny as well, but obviously behind. What about lockdown? I'm pretty sure they should hatch around the 7th. Lockdown on the 2nd? What about the others?

    Egg candling

I have not found my answer anywhere. Grabbed an egg off a nest to put in the incubator. There are a lot of veins, but there is also a bubble that moves around when tipped. Dead?

    Name that predator...

We have a pen that is comprised of hardware cloth on all sides and bottom, not the top (I know). Something got one of our runner ducks tonight. Back of the head and neck all torn up. It didn't make it. We had a mink once, and it looked different. Raccoon? Walls are 12ft

    Drake sitting on eggs

I've already posted something about this, but it's just reached a new level of cuteness. My call drake used to sit over by Daphne( runner), now he's on the nest with her. He's definitely a he, curls and quacks don't lie 😉

    Call/runner cross

Hi all! I picked up two male calls. I thought it would be ok to keep them with my runners as they couldn't possible breed with my girls. Well, I have to tell you, with some teamwork, they have been successful, least I think so. I have two girls sitting on a nest, and Barney sitting next to them...

    Playing dead?

Craziest duck thing. Peeked outside, one was frantically flapping her wings, fell down, then her neck Bent all the way back so her head was touching her back. She was acting like something was after her, but I didn't see anything. Her eye was runny. Brought her inside, a little weak and...

    Runners and calls

Hi all! I have a bunch of runner ducks. Ten female three male. I have an opportunity to pick up three male calls. I used to have calls, and miss them terribly. I have a separate house for them at night. Think it will be ok? I wouldn't think they'd be able to bother the ladies to much. What do...

is mom duck afraid of hatchling? *Novel alert*

We just had our first runner egg hatch today. Mom was standing outside the house looking confused and unsure. I checked to see what was going on, and the was a fresh baby duck. Mom hasn't been in for yet. She keeps pacing the entrance. I think the baby will be ok for a bit. It's 95 here and I'm...
