We had a hen die suddenly and now we have one. Our hen is 1 year and 2 weeks. I just read in Storey's Chicken Guide that Foster Mama's is possible. They mentioned 4 immediate signs that our hen would take 2 new chicks as her own. Has anyone had success? We plan to introduce at night and...
Morning, our chicken, Savannah, appeared healthy and happy last night during her usual chicken run. Next, she squatted like she was going to lay an egg and then fell over. We placed her in her hen house and she laid there for about 3 minutes with eyes clsed. suddenly, seizure like thrashing...
It seems that around 17 or 18 weeks some hens begin to lay eggs and this is so exciting! How soon to begin giving Layer Feed and Oyster Shells? Ours are only 13 weeks, but that is just around the corner. Thanks, Sarah
Our chicks our 7 weeks old and this morning we heard one of them scream, crow? Almost like a roo? We didn't want and cannot have any roo's and hoping that hens scream too. Please tell us that they do. We belive we have a BSL, Barred Rock Hen and a Brown Leghorn.

Our 3 chicks loved their outside trip yesterday and we just loved watching them. One took a dirt bath and they all poked the ground, around the tree and grass. I wish I had pictures to post, but too busy watching them and forgot camera! They are so easy to love! Cheers, Sarah
Please help...it appears one of my new baby chicks is spitting up? She seems active, eats, drinks etc....What do/should I do? What is this? Crop issues? Thanks! Sarah
I bet this wiill be a silly question for the old schoolers, but once I move my chicks outside to the coop, will they need a heat lamp? Will they need one in winter? Also, two of my chicks seem obsessed with trying to peck at some of the woodshavings..is this normal? Lastly, we placed a towel...
