I noticed the chest of one of my birds was protruding a lot and thought it was strange but since they were free ranging, I knew I couldn't catch him. I noticed it just about every time I saw him for a month (okay so part of me wondered if it was just the way he stands.)
Last night when I...
Two birds - 10 weeks old...
The all black one I am thinking is female based on tail and saddle feathers...
The black and white one... I can't tell - depends on the pictures :/
Thoughts?
Pictures of two birds that are 10 weeks old... One is gray and one has white and brown in it...
I think the gray one has some pointy saddle feathers and some of the tail feathers look like they are getting longer and curving - so male? (I'm hoping female because I want to keep that one)...
To make things easier to explain - I'm calling them the black bird and the white bird.... They are 10 weeks old now. I have several pictures of each... I am hoping they're both female but I have a feeling they aren't... Thoughts?
Can anyone tell me if I'm right about the gender of these birds... The father of all of them is a Barred Rock Rooster (and he's huge.) The mothers could be a light colored EE, a Maran, a purebred Ameraucana, or purebred a buff orpington... They are all 3 months old - as of two days ago.
I'm...
This silkie mix lost feathers on her back because the rooster is just too big for her. So I bought her an apron, hoping that would protect her and let the feathers grow back.
Then she went broody so I had her separated for about 5 weeks.
She's been back outside for about 2 months now and...
I THOUGHT this was fowl pox, but from all of the research I did, fowl pox goes through birds in 1-2 months. He has had these spots for months (We're going on at least 6 months, if not 9 months now.) The spots look bigger and more obvious in person, not sure why they look smaller and less...
Before I go slather her up with vaseline - can anyone confirm that this is scaly legs?
These are all of the same bird - she's the only one that shows signs of this, but from what I've read, if it is Scaly leg, I will treat them all.
Under the beak and in front of the waddle there is a black thing... I've had this bird for a year, she's around 15 months old now, she's healthy and fine, but this THING is there. What is it? (sorry it's along the black post in the background but it was the best picture I could find it it.)
I have some eggs under a broody hen and they are due to hatch any day...
Unfortunately the hen has pooped and it's gotten on some of the eggs... AND I think I had a rotten egg explode (I say think because of another post - I have no idea what happen).
Anyway - how can I clean off the eggs...
I'm so confused... I hope someone can answer this.
This morning when I left for work there was ONE hatched chick, ONE empty egg, and a bunch of unhatched eggs under my hen. They are due to hatch between now and Saturday.
I came home to the nastiest smell of my life. I lifted the hen up to...
I have 16 birds now (1 rooster, 11 hens, 4 guinea). They have a 12 pound feeder in one coop and each day I put 2 feed in a bowl in the run (1-2 guinea are stuck in the run every day - it's the only way I can keep all 4 from running away.) They free range during the day - when it's light out...
I have a flock of chickens - 11 hens and 2 rooster (getting rid of one because he's gone after people a few times). They always stick together - either as one big group or split into 2 or 3 groups, but I've never caught one alone.
Until last weekend. My favorite bird was 50 feet from me and...
I'm back... with 5 more chickens that we got about 2 weeks ago...
There are TWO dark brown birds that I think might be Rhode Island Reds... and then THREE light brown birds... Two are very similar in color (first and last picture) and one is much lighter brown - more like beige in the second...
And how often it is laying - to isolate it for a few days? I THINK 5 of my birds are laying based on the sizes and colors of the eggs that I am getting... I know two of the layers, but I'm not sure who else is laying and not laying....
Is the only way to figure this out to isolate a chicken...
Someone is selling these three roosters - and says they are Americauna... After my first attempt at getting Americauna chickens and finding out that 5 of the 8 were males and none were really Americauna - I wanted to get some thoughts BEFORE I decided to buy one...
These are the only pictures...
We have 7 guinea - got them at 3 days old and they are 4 months old now. They've been free range since they were about 7 weeks old. We also have chickens (6 girls, 2 boys) that we got when the guinea were about 6 or 7 weeks old. They share the same coop and chicken run - but the guinea rarely...
One of our guinea disappeared for 4 hours today. We thought maybe a raccoon or the neighbors dog got him, but we just found him.
The bad news is he is limping. I looked at the leg and the pad and toes are slightly swollen compared to the good leg... near the knee looks like it may be slightly...
Have no idea what happen - or what this is... I tried to get several pictures from several angles... I was able to pull a small feather off it (it was stuck on because it's dirty, it wasn't growing from it.) I sort of pulled it down a little and it was a flesh and red color lump under all that...
