My 4 month nameless white leghorn hen gave me my first egg this morning!!!! Was small but perfectly formed with a hard shell. So proud of my chicky babies!
My DH and I have enjoyed making and canning jams, jellies, and even make beer! We have always wanted to start making our own cheeses. Finally decided to take the plunge! So before I started looking for suppliers I thought I would ask who you prefer to use. Online is the only way to go for...
My favorite english muffin recipe calls for powdered milk, but I am out! Do you think coffee creamer, non flavored of course, would give me the same results? Were going camping for the holiday weekend and always make them to take. Just don't feel like going to the grocery. I'm lazy like that!
Dh thinks I am! Feed 3 times a day about 2.5 cups at a time. I have 14 total, white leghorn, golden comet, and barred rocks. There has been no wasted feed. What does everyone think?
Thanks in advance to anyone that may respond! However DH and I disagree on when we bought them. One says end of March the other says April. However, we got them at TS there was no mention of how old they were just straight run, pullets, and/or breed name. I assumed they were a day old or so...
Before I start I'm a big sissy, ran but at least I shut the coop door! My oldest and I went to feed and there he sat in the middle of the chicken door tangled all around a barred rock pullet. My father in law brought a product called snake away up last night. It seems granular in nature. I...
Couple years ago I belonged to a few different swapping forums. I have quite a few heirloom seeds, mostly veggies, few flowers. Always looking for what I don't have which right now are peppers, long island cheese pumpkin, sunflowers, and popping corn. Anyone inerested?
Finally got the coop built well enough to get the chicks into their new home! Everyone seemed to love it. Plenty of investigation going on right now. Wish I could post pics instead of links! Anyhow just felt like sharing the good news.
We want to add a few smaller birds of a smaller breed to use as meat production. My family usually eats 4 lb chickens when bought from the grocery store. What breed would everyone recommend?
I can only access the site mobily so i can't post pics. However 3 out the 16 of my barred rocks are lighter in color and were the first to develop combs. In the last couple of days the combs have started to turn red as well. They are around a month old.
I was wanting to have my boys, 12 and 8, to help with the coop. I had an idea of having them to help construct the nesting boxes. I mentioned to my husband that I was going to let the paint them however they wanted. He said that he
was afraid that the chickens would peck and ingest the...
We have been told by several people that broodiness has been bred out of most chickens. What breeds have any of you had that sat well and protects their little ones?
Was wondering if I hatched eggs from a barred rock roo and a golden comet hen, would it produce a good layer? Same roo with a white leghorn hen, and with these two what color egg would it lay?
Six of my chicks are around 4 weeks old, the other 10 are 3 weeks. They are currently in my den in a brooder (no heat lamp). We are expecting company for the week and their coop isn't finished, due to the weather and several doctors appointments. They are giving rain thru Monday. The temps...
I am a housewife and mother of two boys, who is new to this forum and to chicken raising! Looking forward to making lots of new chicky friends! Any other KY members out there?
