Treating an infection in duck leg- graphic pics

I thought this might prove useful to someone else so I thought I'd compile this here- and I'm always open to suggestions for care. This is a roughly 10 month old chocolate muscovy hen. I noticed about a week ago that she was limping and staying near the guinea pen instead of down at the pond...

    Swollen head/possible ear infection?

Noticed this guy yesterday morning on feed check. Roughly 5 month old capon (actually I think he's a slip). I think he's been hiding this from me for a few days by turning his head away from me when I'm walking by. He's quarantined now. At first I was thinking bee sting as we have beehives...

Pullet with broken wing- please give advice?

My puppy got ahold of a little pullet tonight, about 4 months old, the wing is completely broken just below the shoulder joint- clean break, bone poking through skin. She's in shock and I don't know if she will make it but I also don't know how to heal the injury if she does. Any advice? I...

    Bumblefoot/Frostbite/Injury/Something else? Photos

Prelude- this is an approximately 10 month old Black Copper Marans pullet. First noticed her acting "off" a week ago but didn't pick her up for examination until yesterday and immediately brought her in the house. Does this look like frostbite to anyone with frostbite experience? At first I...

Eye infection/injury?? Eye has gone blind and gray- pics

Anyone ever seen anything like this before? I don't know how long her eye has been like this, I've been so busy with the move that I haven't been watching much "chicken TV" lately. :( She was the first one in to roost last night so I looked her over and was totally shocked to see her eye. I...

    could this be Marek's? VIDEO

Take a look at this video, Wednesday morning I went out to check the grower pen and found an Ameraucana pullet, about 5 weeks old, on it's side, unable to walk. It has been exceptionally hot the last few days so I brought it in thinking it may be heat related. No change since then. If I try...

    Lump on hen's face

This is approximately 1 1/2 year old Black Copper Marans hen, she seems to be eating and drinking fine, but has a lump on her face between her beak and her eye. I noticed it a few days ago. It does not seem to bother her (no scratching, rubbing, or head shaking) and she is eating and drinking...

What breed is this chick? Guessing Lakenvelder x silkie? Picture

We bought some lakenvelder hatching eggs at auction for cheap just for fun, only 2/9 hatched. The first one came out as expected, the second had a hard time of hatching and I had to help him out at the end. Then I just had to laugh- he looks nothing like his sibling! Given the head bump and...

ADVICE PLEASE- is this spraddle? slipped tendon? something else?- pics and videos

This is a one-day-old cream legbar, hatched one day late, it cannot walk at all as you can see in the video he just rolls onto his side. If I force him upright he slides forward on his chest, won't support his weight at all on either leg. If it is spraddle it is only one leg. I have him in a...

    HELP! Toddler injured chick?

I think my toddler just injured one of our chicks, he just loves them and keeps getting them in and out of the brooder, even though I keep warning him to be soft and careful. I went to check on them and one was laying in the brooder, picked him up and he opened his eyes but still won't get up...

Wheaton maran chick from cuckoo maran parents?

Is it possible to hatch a wheaton maran from cuckoo maran parents? Bought 3 hatching eggs from a lady, she said the only dark layers she has are cuckoo marans yet I hatched out two black chicks and one pure yellow chick. From what I'm reading on the forums wheaton marans are often thrown from...
