I have a single hen laying very thin shelled eggs that break in the nest. I’ve done all of the things to correct it but I think her egg laying machine is broken. I saw her on camera but I have 3 others of the same breed. I’m planning on putting each one in a large dog crate one at a time to see...
Our girls go half naked during molt. I've heard of using game feed. The problem is that the molt seems to last 9-12 weeks and some of the varieties molt at different times. Will the high protein content hurt the hens that are done molting?
Our girls go half naked during molt and go from 5-6 eggs each to 0-1 egg a week during that time. I've heard of using game feed. Since the girls molt at different times per variety, will that extra protein hurt them while the others are molting? Molting seems to take 9-12 weeks to do the...
Well, it's that terrible time of year again, when all of our hens go naked. Does anyone know where to get coupons for Nutrena Feather Fixer? It really works fast and gets our girls laying and ready for new feathers for the winter. I've searched the net, but can't find any. Thank you
We have 15 hens and no rooster. We have 4 nest boxes, which they share well, but lately one of our Golden Wyandottes has gotten really broody and sits on the next all day. Does anyone know what to do with her? I'm afraid she is taking one of the boxes out of use for the other hens.
Our hens have been plucking feathers out of each other and eating them. Do they need more protein in their diet? They look healthy otherwise. We free feed 18% pellets and they get some carrots, fresh grass and scratch too. Too many treats? Not enough regular food? We could use the help of...
We have 15 hens, no rooster, and 1/2 of our hens have feathers pecked off of the back of their necks. Does anyone know what we can put on their necks to deter the others from pecking. We have tried Vasoline and mustard. The vasoline helps, but they liked the mustard. Any other suggestions???
Some of our hens have the back of their necks that the feathers have been pecked clean. Does anyone know of anything that we can put on them to discourage the others from pecking. I thought that I heard of Vasoline? How about the spray we use on the dogs to keep them from licking an area?
Hi, My husband, Greg and I just started with our hens as chicks in April 2012. All 16 chicks made it and all are hens. We are enjoying them, so much and they share the splendor of our garden and fruit trees. They are spoiled rotten but we get anywhere from 11- 14 eggs per day. We are...
Hi
My husband Greg and I moved from Southern CA to beautiful Paso Robles. We finally have enough property to have chickens, so we started with 16 hens. We had wanted 12, but everyone said we could lose a few as chicks or a few may be roosters. Well they all made it and they are all hens. The...
Our young hens having been laying for the last 2 1/2 months. All of the eggs are brown and were evenly colored until about 3 weeks ago. We are getting several speckled eggs each week. Is this a sign of something health wise or are they just pretty eggs?
We have 15 hens 23 weeks old, no rooster, they are laying well and appear healthy and happy. Some of them are rapidly losing feathers on their back at the base of their tail. We have seen no pecking and we don't think we see mites or lice. I have seen some crusty type skin in a few areas...
Our hens are 23 weeks old and have been laying for the last 3 weeks. They have a coop and an outside run. They look really healthy and happy, but 4 days ago a few of them have lost all of the large feathers on their backs at the base of their tails. We don't see them pecking at each other...
