Went out to check on my girls this evening and one of my little silkies is wheezing. She was not doing this six hours earlier when I went to collect eggs and throw out a couple handfuls of scratch.
She is active and alert, eating normaly, poop is normal, no nasal or eye discharge, no head...
I have a 2 1/2 year old polish hen who is molting. She is thru the worst of it but has lost a lot of weight and doesn't seem to be eating her feed. I have them on a mix of organic starter and nutrena feather fixer. However, she will eat the high protein treats...eggs, tuna or meal worms...
Is seems the are lots of limping chickens right now! I finally isolated my limping hen last week. Her foot and leg are fine. I think it is more of a joint issue in her hip. I talked to a vet and he said to keep her penned and give her low dose aspirin for 3 weeks. She definitely seems better...
So the good news is my 2 almost 16 weeks old silkies are roosting :). The weird thing is they go to roost one to one and a half hours earlier then when the big girls go to roost around sunset. Is this weird? Should I be kicking off the roost or just let them be?
Thanks in advance
My Buff Brahma has been limping the last month of so. The last couple of days she has gotten worse. I have checked her feet (no bumble foot, though she has had it in the past), checked her nails, she clutches my finger with both feet. I checked everything I could and have felt around both legs...
I have a flock of four pretty docile girls, well I thought they were docile until I wanted to add two silkies. My current flock is one Brahma(head hen), Polish (second in command) and two australorps (bottom two). I got two silkies this spring. They are about 11 weeks old. Last week I had...
well, after two and half weeks I think my polish hen's crop is mostly clear. After lots of flushing, probiotics and soft foods. This morning there felt to be a small bit in there that felt doughy and about the size of a quarter or maybe a bit smaller. She doesn't really like eating soft foods...
My polish crested who is molting was acting sluggish and not eating much. I finally thought to check her crop and it feels like there are pebbles in there and is not emptying. I can move it around, it is not super solid but not slushy either. Her poos are white and watery. She is drinking...
I believe my crested polish has started molting. Of course she would be the fist one to start molting since she was the first girl to lay an egg. There are tons of her feathers everywhere. Poor thing shakes and the feathers go flying. My question is about her behavior though. She is less...
So, after checking over me girls today I noticed by buff brahma has double bumble foot. There was a little swelling, no redness but scabs on each pad. I soaked her feet twice in a warm Epsom salt solution. Rubbed the area down with povidine. The scabs came off easily but there were no kernels...
So my girls are big girls now!

The pics were taken back in December and the combs have filled out and are cherry red now. All but the Buff Brahma are laying. Yay! There is nothing like fresh eggs.
My Polish was the fist one to lay and lays about 5 eggs...
Are 11 week old chicks old enough fro scratch grains? They are about to experience their first freezing temps this week so I thought I would give them some scratch in the evening before bed for warmth.
Also, at what age are they considered pullets?
Thanks!
I am brand new to this. My 4 eight week old chicks are outside full time as of the beginning of this week. They already put themselves to bed at night :)
My question is about heat. There seems to be a great number of opinions but I don't know what I should do in my case. The coop is 4x5 and...
