I am looking for someone hatching EE's around the end of January to the middle February. Between my friend and I we would like 5-6 peeps. I am looking for some neat coloring in the parents if possible and would like some that lay blue eggs.
Thanks,
Scott
He has just started to crow regularly and as I live in the city I can not keep him. He is about a year old. Post on this thread and I'll PM my number. Only gonna offer him for a few days before he goes in the stew pot.
He is free.
I have what I think is a Roo who does not crow. I am still going to give him some time before I profess to you all that I am sure he does not crow.
My question is:
If he is a Roo that does not crow, is the not-crowing a genetic mutation that could be selected for or is it more likely a random...
If I hatch some of the fertile eggs from my EE hen (light blue eggs) and Turken Roo, what is the possibility of blue producing babies? Olive?
Also, they will be NN correct?
Thanks
For the fourth time my wife has accidentally let my dogs out and they have killed a large portion of my flock.
First time she forgot that the chickens were in the backyard - we had only recently started letting them free-range and did not have a system to signify when they were out. We only...
I have gotten a few eggs that have some speckling to them. I have RIR, BO, BR, and EE (which are laying pretty blue eggs). Are any of these kinds that can lay speckled eggs, or is there a lingering gene in one of my chickens family tree that is producing this?
Thanks
I have tried to slowly integrate a bantam turken (I was told she was a standard when I bought her) into my flock of regular chickens for the past two and a half weeks. Today DW let them all out together and the big ones attacked her and ripped the skin off the back of her neck. I've got the...
So about 7 weeks ago I bought 2 turkens from a local lady. She said that both were 4-5 weeks old. I brought them home and quarantined them for 4 weeks and have been introducing them to the flock slowly. One is growing normally and is nearly full pullet size. The other has stayed almost the...
I have been recycling the shells from our eggs and feeding them back to the girls.
I dry them out on a cookie sheet in the oven at about 225 degrees for about a half hour and then put them in the coffee grinder to powder them. They are then easy to add to the feed.
Any comments?
One of my RIR has disappeared for the second night in a row. I looked for a half hour and could not find her tonight. The problem is that the dogs must now be walked instead of let run in the yard in the morning because they will eat her. Ugggg!!!!!!
As I celebrate my first Fathers Day as a Papa I wish all the chicken loving fathers out there a happy day filled with children and grandchildren (and chickens).
My girls (2 each of EE, BR, BO, RIR) have not started to lay yet. They are free range, get plenty of layed feed & oyster shells. They get yogurt, cottage cheese and other treats regularly. All of them are 22 weeks old tomorrow and I haven't seen one eggs yet.
UGGGGGGGGGG!!!!
How long should I keep my 2 new chickens (5 weeks old) separated from the flock. The place I got them looked reasonably clean, but had a lot of winged creatures. I was thinking 2-3 weeks.
I got 2 turkens today that are about 5-6 weeks old and I only have layer feed. The protein is the same as the grower feed. The only major difference I remember is that the layer feed is not medicated. Anyone think that it will be a problem to feed them the layer?
When I got my chicks this February, the hatchery did not have any Turkens available for several weeks so I just made my order without them thinking I would be fine with what I got. My last flock had turkens in it and now I would like to add a turken pullet to this flock.
I live in N. Florida...
So I just finally found a place to get fresh goat milk. While I was talking to the lady who owns the goats it come up that I will have eggs soon and she suggested trading. I currently get a half gallon a week from her for $5. I was wondering if everyone though that a dozen eggs would be a...
I have some pullets (RIR, BO, BR, EE) that are 15 weeks old. Is there anywhere I can find a general idea about when they might begin laying. I understand that each girl will vary, but are there some ranges for these breeds I can expect. Waiting is driving me really NUTS!!!
Thanks
I have never given my chickens store-bought grit. We live in Florida so I assume that they eat a bunch of sand while they are free-ranging. Is this enough? They seem to be fine (15 weeks old) and are growing fine.
