My hen got thrown in the coop by my dad yesterday after a long chase around the pasture. Today I found her laying on the coop floor. She is leaning on one side, has an injured leg pointing outwardly and when she tries to move she pulls her leg in and tried to walk on it but her foot remains...
when my roo's daughter pullets grow up, it it weird for him to breed them? will the chicks be defected? should i get a new rooster for every time a new generetion is incorporated into the flock? thanks
today i went out to watch my chickens range, after a minute, my golden sex link hen started leaning her head forward, then up, and opening her beak as wide as she could while making no noise. is she sick? im sure shes a hen, and has been laying eggs for over a year now, ive never seen her do...
i know its hard to tell with silkies, especially since its only 8 months old, i have no clue, but ive seen it get mounted by my rooster, still, i know this could just be like a dominance thing.
i noticed it a couple of days ago but she may have had it for a while. she also has a small, barely noticeable limp. as i held her like in the pictures, i also noticed she kept the hurt leg outstretched, this may have been just from the way i was holding her? thanks for your thoughts!
i noticed it today but i think she may have had it for a while, no super noticable limp but a small one.
any ideas on what it might be or cures? thanks

ive now got 3 roos, but not enough hens. i plan to keep only 1 or 2. one is a barred rock who grew up with the hens, another is a light brahma who also grew up with them. the 3rd is an older red sex link who i got full grown. the younger ones are about 28 weeks and the older one has begun to...
its a light brahma ( im pretty sure) and ive always been sure it was a hen and the rooster treats it like a hen (though ive never seen him mount it). but today i came home and caught it mounting on of my RIR hens! the rooster never lets the smaller rooster even come close to the hens, much less...
its a barred rock and ive been told it was a hen when it was younger. i noticed a slight difference between it and my other 2 barred rocks but now its alot, my roo began aggressively mounting her about a week ago, or so i thought, i now believe him to just be attacking her? today when i came...
once my broody hen hatches her chicks what next?? should i take the chicks and raise them in a brooder so the hen or other chickens(i have a rooster) dont hurt the chicks, or let her raise them so i dont have to?? does it make a difference since i have to leave out chick feed anyways?? and...
i have never seen my rooster mount my hens, they arent laying eggs yet so i cant check to see if the eggs are fertilized. he is full grown. also, i havent noticed any missing feathers on the hens backs. is there a reason he wouldnt mount them, maybe because they arent laying yet? or is he when...
What breed is this rooster, and will he grow larger?? i have no idea how old he is (got him older)but he looks fairly small for a rooster. i think he might be a red sex link or some sort of mix. what do you guys think?
The barred rock has had a big, red comb like that for almost 3 weeks now! when will she lay? also, the brahma's comb is deep red now but not large, will she lay soon??
