There is a meeting that I and a few others will be speaking at tonight at 6pm and we would love any added show of support. We are trying to get them to allow backyard chickens.
Thanks,
Shane
Here is a little back story,
A made the final decision to dive into chicken raising after my last deployment to Afghanistan about a year ago. I did a lot of reading about them and a lot less about the laws. I skimmed through the city ords and did a couple Google searches that came up largely...
Raising chickens is going great so i figured I might try my hand at meat rabbits. I purchased chickens for dummies and it was a lot of help. Are there any books any of you could recommend for rabbits?
Also included are my hutch plans i threw together quick based on a few things I saw online...
They are bsl so I hope my local dealer was smart enough to not mess up the sex when he got them at a day old.
My suspicion comes from their behavior being different from my orpingtons and their combs and wattles but that could just be personality and breed differences.
Thanks for your help.
After a lot more research I still cant see anything other than a comb that screams not a bsl pullet. I plan on exchanging this one,I just want to double check first.
I can get more pics if needed.
I really don't care if its a bsl or easter egger as long as its a pullet...
Since you all are the experts I'm sure I don't have to tell you this but 3 are buff orpingtons about 11 weeks old and 1 black sex link that is about 6 weeks old. I have been told they are all pullets but I'm hoping you can confirm it.
So first off I have to give a shout out to Rino081. My coop was based on theirs with a few changes to make it fit me.
1- I should have definitely drawn out some plans... It would have been a lot smoother going if i had.
2- thank all of you for saying DO NOT get chicks until the coop is done...
I'm talking about the clear corrugated roof that is shaded in has UV protection for the roof of a coupe. my fear is that they might get too much Sun or it gets too hot for them. But I've heard the more sun they get the better the egg laying is... so what do you think?
I would like a couple young chicks but am worried about getting a rooster. I only want hens for laying, I live in a quiet neighborhood and would like to keep it that way. So what do you do when you get chicks only wanting hens and end up with a roo?
Thanks
After doing a lot of looking around I decided to play around on paint (who doesnt love to waste time at work on paint?) and I designed this with the inspiration from a few coops on this forum. If I cannot find a little tikes type play house for cheap in my area I think I will build one like...
Please help me compare and contrast these three breeds. I have done a lot of reading and believe it is between the first two with the Buff Orpington coming up as a close third.
My main goal is lots of eggs followed by good pets... I have even considered getting one of each and seeing which I...
Well I am actually deployed right now but when I get back in a couple months plan on getting a couple hens.
I have a lot of research to do but plenty of time to do it. What I do know so far is the two most important qualities; good large egg layer (everyday would be great) and good with kids...
