We had an awful morning this morning, and I was hoping to get an opinion or two on what could have happened. We have a broody goose who has been sitting on a clutch of sixteen eggs for almost a month now (they were due to hatch any day now), and she has been a great mama goose ("mean" and not...
Hello everyone! I had a few questions about incubating goose eggs. We are trying a few different methods this year (a broody hen as well as wet and dry incubation to see which approach we prefer). Anyway, I was wondering if I could clean the shells up a bit so that I could candle them easier...
A few of my marans (about a year old) have what looks like diarrhea. Their feces are liquidy and cover their backsides. One of the hens is having trouble walking. We have not changed their diet and their water and food containers are clean. Any ideas what's wrong with them? I don't want to lose...
Our girls just started laying. The first egg was tiny (about the size of a quarter and the yolk was only about the size as an eraser tip). Now they're getting to "normal" size, but today we found a behemoth. Just huge! Is that normal?
There are two of our normal eggs (before they were washed)...
So my crested fawn runner duck has been "dancing" with my Chinese crested gander. Anyone know what on earth he is doing?

Lots of Cockerels around eight weeks old.
Best offer gets them! (Please be reasonable).
They are sweet little guys hand raised and organically fed. We are trimming the flock and are trying to get rid of a few of the boys. We've gotten rid of a bunch, but we still have:
2 Golden Sebrights

We had a few surprises and we have four to five roosters with about fourty-one hens. We are trying to not rehome any of them, and we wanted to know if there would be enough hens for the lot of them. They are doing fine together now, but they are not fully grown yet. Will the continue to be fine...
Chicken 1: I think it is a Cuckoo Maran Pullet
Chicken 2: This one is a little bit of a mystery we think it's a Cockrel though
Chicken 3: Not sure of breed or sex on this one
Chicken 4: Not sure of breed or sex on this one either. She/he got in a puddle so he/she is a little wet lol...
I got a few ducks and geese yesterday in the mail. When I got them the two Rouen ducks where acting fine. All day today they were fine as well, but a few moments ago one of them was laying on it's side kicking one of it's feet. Now it's head is all loopy, it's going around in circles. and it...
Thanks to a few of the posts on here I found out how to give Mayflower, May-May, a hobble brace, and here are a few of his first steps! He loves his mama :))
Sorry I couldn't figure out how to embed it so here's the link. Thought I would share because it's so cute...
I am getting a pair of turkey chicks in a few weeks as a part of a homesteading combo, the only problem is: I know nothing about turkeys. I am planning on making my own chicken feed and I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for turkey feed so that I could make that as well.
I was thinking about planting some plants around our chicken coop, but I wanted to make sure that they were plants that were chicken safe and that the chickens would actually enjoy. I know they like veggie scraps, but I was thinking about some flowers or something pretty like that; Something...
We were going to get a few chickens (well we being me, I love fresh eggs), but the previous owners of the property told us that they had predator problems before when they had chickens. They said that since we were in the middle of the woods that everything from foxes to owls and even to bobcats...
