I keep 2 geese in the coop with my chickens. I know it isn't advisable but it has worked for over a year. My chickens have some bald spots that originally thought was from a bad molt. Then thought maybe I had too many roos so I culled 2. They are still bald. Yesterday I saw what looked like a...
My flock is all around the same age so they molted all pretty close to each other. It just so happened that it was in the dead of winter. My flock looks pretty rough right now. About how long can I expect this to last and is there anything I can do to help? Such as lots of available ash or dust...
I found 2 goose eggs in my coop today. I thought I had 2 female geese but now I'm not so sure. Will geese lay if there isn't a male? Just in case I moved them to the incubator. Both geese are almost a year old.
if i saved a weeks worth of eggs from my hens to place in the incubator at the same time would they be viable? I was assuming keeping them at room temperature would be needed until entering the incubator?
I am getting conflicting advice and figured you guys could clear this up. I have fermented 25# of scratch for my chickens. They like the fermented food much more than the normal scratch or their layer pellets. So much so they are leaving lots of the layer pettiest un eaten. So is fermented...
I found a man with a few of these crates. I bought this one that is 30in x 28 in and he has some that are 3ft x 6ft that i think i am going to buy to add on to my coop. My idea for this crate is to make a Plexiglass hinged top, add a ceramic light fixture, drill 4 2in holes for ventilation and...
I am in north Texas. I want to incubate a good number of eggs this season and this will be my first attempt at this. When is the appropriate time to place the eggs in the incubator? I have a large brooder but I don't want to keep them in there any longer than I need to.
My daughter is 7 and she is really interested in raising. I am building her a brooder this week but I am wondering what y'all may suggest for her first breed to try. She loves the way Silkies look as well as the polish crested. I was thinking maybe more along the lines of Barred Rock. Cn y'all...
I have a mixed flock, i was hoping that I could get some idea of what breeds I have.
1.lays brown eggs, huge brown eggs
2. lays small green eggs and has tufts of feathers under eye and behind eye
3. rooster is very aggressive and protects his flock,
4. white hen (laggard?) in rear lays normal...
i want to order my daughter a few silkies for a coop that i built for her. Any idea when i should order them or when feed stores start taking orders for them? i live in north texas. i know this is a question for the local feed stores but she is asking me now and you guys generally know...
My chickens have been doing great, they are all coming of age very well and i was getting around 9 eggs a day. monday i got 2, tuesday i got 1 and then none for the rest of the week. monday i ran out of layer pellets, i had a little bit that was mixed into my scratch, could the lack of pellets...
My ladies are getting pretty big and i was told they would be laying age in about 4 more weeks. i am still feeding chick starter and i am sure i shouldn't be. Do i move straight to a lying mix or is there an intermediate food that i should be putting down?
I know this is a a popular post title but it happen to me tonight. I was out at the movies (star trek, yeah go see it, greatness) and my father sent me a message. it read "tobi in coop, one chick down pulled youngest goose from his mouth. goose seems to be ok chick wont make it." ok so i get...
I have 15 chicks, they are all mix breeds. I had them in a brooder in the house until they were 4 weeks then moved them to the interior coop for 1 more weeks. On Saturday I opened the door to the coop and let them explore the run for the first time. I am feeding them chick starter still with...
I have 3 babies. The oldest is 6 weeks (blackey), 5 weeks (doe doe ), and 3 weeks (Goldie). My 6 year hold has been having a blast with them and so have my wife and I. We are in Texas and atm we are seeing 80 degree days and 50 degree nights. I have been leaving them out some during the day when...
